Love it or hate it, literature is everywhere, not just in the classroom!

On a recent trip to London, I visited the Ramses & the Gold of the Pharaohs exhibition at Battersea Power Station.

Ramses II is probably better known to many GCSE English students as Ozymandias, thanks to Percy Shelley's famous poem.

Ramses II is thought to have had at least 8 wives, fathered over 100 children and ruled Egypt for around 67 years. He was even worshipped as a god in his own lifetime, which helps explain the "King of kings" inscription that Shelley references.

Ironically, Shelley's poem reminds us how even the greatest and most powerful rulers are no match for the power of time, yet here we are, over 3,000 years later, still talking about Ramses II in GCSE English lessons!

Most students are pleased to discover that "Ozymandias" is the shortest poem in the AQA Power and Conflict anthology at around 98 words!

(I also visited Shrek's Adventure so it wasn't all just literature!)
