This time last year, I was sitting through teacher training, feeling like the summer holidays were already a distant memory.
Although I’d been running Seeds of Possibility for several years, I’d continued to keep one foot in the classroom - juggling teaching, my business and beginning flexi-schooling my own son.
At Easter this year, I finally made the decision to leave the classroom. Everyone could see it was the right decision, but many told me it was the wrong time and that I should make the most of the security and teacher perks - basically survive till the summer holidays!
I haven’t had six weeks “off” this summer. But I have had something far more valuable: time with my son alongside time supporting students. I've found the freedom to put my energy - and my time - where it feels most meaningful.
I chose to continue lessons throughout the summer. I chose to support families who needed a little extra help. I chose to create new opportunities, explore new ideas and invest even more time in the business I believe in.
And now, as that familiar September sinking feeling spreads through schools across the country, I’m feeling something very different.
Because for the first time in a long time, September 2nd is just another day. And that “just” looks like this....!
I was nearly late to my first meeting this morning as I opened my door to the delivery of this beautiful big bouquet and thoughtful card from the parent of a student I’ve supported over the summer.
As alien as it feels to be softly starting September rather than being swept up in the back-to-school rush, I think you’ll agree… I made the right decision. 💖
