Last week the children enjoyed a variety of weather themed activities. They explored a sensory tray with white pom-poms, silver glitter, and ice cubes to represent snow and ice, encouraging discussion about what they could see and feel. In the tuff tray, the children used pipettes, sieves, and colanders to create rain, watching the water drip like raindrops.

The children also worked together to create a group rainbow picture, each decorating a coloured section. We played a parachute weather game, using different movements to represent sunshine and storms, supporting teamwork and physical development.

For maths, the children worked in the rainbow tuff tray, they and compared, colours, quantities using language such as “more than” and “fewer than.” Weather themed control sheets were also available to support fine motor skills and pencil control.

John joined us this week telling the children a story and singing with them.

Last week we celebrated World Book Week at pre-school, sharing a range of well-loved stories including Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Elmer, We’re Going on a Bear Hunt, The Gruffalo, The Tiger Who Came to Tea and Little Red Riding Hood.

The children took on part in fun, story-themed activities designed to develop their communication and language skills through listening and discussion, build confidence and turn-taking within group games, strengthen early maths skills through pattern work, support early literacy through mark-making and word recognition, and enhance both fine and gross motor skills through crafts, tweezing activities and parachute play. We had a week full of imagination, creativity and a love of reading.
