Little Lodge Open Day!

Last Saturday, Little Lodge opened its doors as part of our Whole School Open Day at Arnold Lodge School , welcoming families to meet our wonderful team and explore our nursery rooms! 🧸✨

It was a fantastic day, and we loved meeting so many families and showing you everything Little Lodge has to offer. Thank you to everyone who came along! ☺️

✨ Meet the Team ✨

Hi, I'm Alice! I've been part of the Little Lodge family for nearly two years now, and I honestly love what I do. Every day looks a little different, but at the heart of it all is making sure every single child who walks through our doors feels safe, included, and supported to thrive and that means everything to me.

Outside of nursery life, I like to keep active with running and long walks, which help me switch off and recharge. I also treasure time spent with my partner Sam, whether we're pottering about at home or planning our next little adventure. And then there's my beautiful niece Winnie, my proud "auntie duties" keep me very busy and very entertained whenever I'm not at nursery!

I feel so lucky to be part of such a wonderful team, working alongside people who care as much as I do about giving children the best possible start!

✨🫙Bring the Discovery home!🫙✨

Our All About Me and Belonging theme is all about kindness, friendship and caring for one another, so here is a heart-warming activity to try at home… a Kindness Jar!

What you'll need:
🫙 An empty jar or tub
✂️ Small strips of paper
🖍️ Pens or crayons
💛 A sprinkle of kindness!

How it works:
1. Each time your little one does something kind - sharing a toy, helping out, giving a cuddle - pop a note or a little drawing in the jar
2. Younger ones can add a sticker or colour a strip instead
3. Talk about how being kind made them (and others) feel!
4. At the end of the week, tip it out and celebrate all the kindness together!

This helps children notice and celebrate kind behaviour, understand their feelings and think about others, just like our friend Amicus, who loves helping others to smile!

It's a lovely way to support several EYFS areas of learning, including Personal, Social & Emotional Development and Communication & Language.

From tiny caterpillars to beautiful butterflies!🐛🦋

One of the most amazing parts of our Mini Beasts & Summer Fun Discovery was watching nature work its wonders right before our eyes! ✨

At Little Lodge we welcomed some very special guests… caterpillars! 🐛

The Children watched as they grew bigger by the day, formed their chrysalises, and slowly transformed into stunning butterflies. 🦋

And then one fo the most magical parts of the process, setting them free! The Children were amazed as they waved goodbye and cheered as our butterflies fluttered off into the world.

It was a beautiful reminder of how curious, caring and full of awe our children are. Moments like these are exactly what Little Lodge Discovery is all about!

Watching, wondering and learning together, supporting EYFS areas of learning like Understanding the World and Communication & Language along the way🐛🦋.

✨ Meet the Team ✨

Caroline is the Head of Nursery here at Little Lodge!

What Caroline loves most about Little Lodge is watching the children grow and develop throughout their time in the Nursery. Caroline said that "seeing them continue their journey into Reception at Arnold Lodge is incredibly rewarding, and being part of each child's early years experience is what makes Little Lodge such a special place to work".

Outside of work, Caroline is a big motorsport fan. She and her wife are often found watching Formula 1 or heading to Mini shows and races with their two and a half year old daughter, who enjoys it just as much as they do! 🏎️✨

🐛🔍 Bring the Discovery home! 🔍🐛

We have been loving our Mini Beasts & Summer Fun theme this August! Here’s a simple activity to try at home this weekend… a Mini Beast Bug Hunt! 🌿

What you’ll need:
🔍 A magnifying glass (or just curious little eyes!)
🪣 A small tub or jar
📋 Paper and crayons

How to play:
🐛 Head out to the garden, park or a leafy path
🕷️ Hunt for mini beasts under logs, on leaves or in the soil.
👀 Look closely… how many legs? What colour? Is it moving fast or slow?
✏️ Draw or count what you find
🌿 Always pop them back where you found them!

Why it’s great for little ones:
This encourages children to observe closely, count and ask questions building their curiosity, language and love of nature, just as we do at Little Lodge. It’s a lovely way to support several EYFS areas of learning, including Understanding the World, Communication & Language and Mathematics!

🌍✨ Introducing Little Lodge Discovery! ✨🌍

Each month we take our little ones on a brand-new adventure and July’s was a big one: Adventure & World Exploration! 🗺️🧭

Little Lodge Discovery is our monthly theme that shapes everything we do: play, stories, activities and learning. Because children are natural explorers, and we love opening up the big, wonderful world to them one adventure at a time.

This month our little explorers:
🌏 Discovered maps, globes and faraway places
🦁 Met animals from around the world
🎒 Set off on their very own adventures through play

Every activity is thoughtfully linked to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) supporting key areas like Communication & Language, Understanding the World, and Personal, Social & Emotional Development. So while it feels like play, it’s building real skills, confidence and a lifelong love of learning🌟

We’re so proud of our little adventurers! Where will we go next month? 👀✨
