If your child is leaving sunbeams in July and you want to order a printed photo book, we will send you the link within the last weeks, it would be good for you to be uploading any photographs to tapestry that you want added to the book now to ensure they are included, this could be of holidays, family events or just day to day activities.

🌱 What do children need most in Early Years?
We often talk about outcomes, school readiness and achievement… but before any of that can happen, children need their foundational needs to be met.
My career and ethos has been influenced by the fantastic work on Maslow and his hierarchy of needs pyramid.
From the base - up:
💙 Basic physical needs met
🛡️ Physical and emotional safety
❤️ Belonging and connection
⭐ Confidence and self-esteem
🌿 Opportunities to thrive and reach unique potential
When children feel safe, valued, connected and supported, learning becomes possible.
This isn’t a checklist or something children “complete” — children move up and down these layers every day depending on experiences, relationships and circumstances. Our role is to create environments where children feel secure enough to explore, play, learn and flourish.
I wrote more about this approach and how Maslow links to reflective Early Years practice here:
