October is Black History Month in the UK: a time to celebrate the achievements and contributions of Black communities across the country.

This year’s theme is “Honouring Our Communities”, which is all about noticing the people and contributions that bring communities together.

In the UK Black History Month was first officially started in 1987 by Akyaaba Addai-Sebo, with the aim to challenge racism and make sure Black history was recognised and celebrated. It is a time to learn more about the issues facing culturally diverse communities, listen to voices that are often overlooked, and explore the history and perspectives that that are often missed in everyday learning.

Here at EPE, we’re committed to learning, listening and celebrating Black history, not only this month, but throughout the year.
