So, what exactly is an Arkwright Engineering Scholarship? 👀

It’s a two-year programme designed to support young people with a passion for engineering, giving Scholars the chance to develop their skills, explore their interests and connect with the world of engineering.

There’s more than one way to get involved:

🔧 Apply to become a Scholar and get access to mentoring, events and funding
🏫 Schools and teachers can support and nominate students
🤝 Businesses and organisations can sponsor a Scholar and help shape the next generation of engineers
🎓 Alumni can stay connected and share their experience with the next generation Whether you’re looking to become a Scholar, support one or get involved as a partner, there’s a place for you in the Arkwright community.

We’re incredibly proud to announce that Jim Ashworth, Arkwright Mentor, has been named a finalist for Volunteer of the Year at the National Charity Today Awards™ 2026.

Jim mentors 21 Arkwright Scholars, supporting young people across the 2024 and 2025 cohorts through a combination of one-to-one and virtual mentoring.

As an Arkwright Mentor, Jim gives his time to support Scholars throughout their engineering journey, helping with their projects, sharing his experience, answering questions and offering guidance as they work towards their future in engineering.

His commitment to supporting so many young people, and the time he gives to helping them develop their ideas, skills and confidence, makes this recognition incredibly well deserved.

We’re proud to see Jim’s contribution as an Arkwright Mentor recognised nationally, and we’ll be celebrating alongside him and the other finalists at the National Charity Today Awards™ Gala Lunch this October.

Congratulations, Jim!

If you've experienced the impact of the Arkwright Engineering Scholarship Programme first-hand, you'll know how influential the right support and guidance can be in shaping a young person's future.

We're currently looking for volunteer mentors to support our next cohort of Arkwright Scholars. Mentoring is consistently rated as one of the most valuable aspects of the programme, providing Scholars with encouragement, insight, and real-world perspectives as they progress through their STEM journey.

If you're interested in becoming a mentor, or know someone in your network who might be, we'd love to hear from you - please email [email protected] for more information.

Celebrating our Arkwright Scholars!

It's been a successful results season, as young people across the UK received their A Level, IB, Scottish Higher and vocational results, celebrating the end of one chapter and the exciting start of another.

We couldn’t let the moment pass without celebrating our incredible 2025/26 Arkwright Engineering Scholars and everything they’ve achieved.

After years of hard work, determination and dedication, our Scholars are now taking their next steps into engineering, maths and beyond. From Cambridge Engineering, Bristol Mechanical Engineering and Loughborough Automotive Engineering, to Mathematics at Birmingham and a Degree Apprenticeship in Electrical & Electronic Engineering at Bentley Motors, there’s so much to celebrate.

We’re incredibly proud of each and every one of them, and excited to see where their talent, curiosity and passion for STEM takes them next. Congratulations to our Scholars, and to everyone who received their results this summer. Here’s to the next chapter! 🚀

Want to inspire your students to explore a future in engineering, computing or technical design?

Our Virtual Arkwright Engineering Scholarship (AES) Assembly Sessions are designed to introduce eligible students to one of the UK's most prestigious engineering scholarship programmes.

Applications for the 2027 Arkwright Engineering Scholarships open in September 2026. During the session, we'll explain what the scholarship offers, who can apply, what the application process involves, and how becoming an Arkwright Scholar can support students on their journey into STEM.

Perfect for Year 11 students in England and Wales, Year 12 students in Northern Ireland, and S4 students in Scotland (or equivalent), these interactive online assemblies help young people understand the opportunities available, ask questions, and gain the confidence to take the next step.

If your school would like to help students learn more about the Arkwright Engineering Scholarship and the application process, book a virtual assembly at a time that suits you.

A proud moment for the Arkwright Engineering Scholarships team.

Last night, at the Royal Academy of Engineering's Awards Dinner at Raffles London at The OWO, Helen, Lisa and Georgina were honoured to accept the Rooke Award for the Public Promotion of Engineering on behalf of the Arkwright Engineering Scholarships. The award reflects the passion, dedication and hard work of the entire Arkwright team, past and present, whose commitment has shaped and grown the programme over many years.

It also recognises the invaluable support of colleagues across The Smallpeice Trust, as well as our sponsors, industry partners, schools, mentors and alumni, who all play a vital role in inspiring and supporting the next generation of engineers.

It was also a pleasure to celebrate the Royal Academy of Engineering's Young Engineers of the Year awards. During the presentations, we were delighted to see that one of the award recipients is an Arkwright alumni, a lovely moment that highlighted the continued success of so many young people who have come through the programme. Congratulations to all of this year's winners; we wish you every success for the future.

We're incredibly proud to receive this recognition from the Royal Academy of Engineering and grateful to everyone who has been part of the Arkwright journey.
