Last week, as our letter of the week was "O", the children enjoyed a range of "O"activities from origami and orange painting, to octopus ocean and sand trays! 🐙

The children mixed together primary colours to make orange paint and then paint their oranges.🍊

We practised fine motor skills whilst cutting paper and then threading it through.

In the garden, we explored water and sand tray with a range of sea creatures, especially the octopus!

We then made ocean themed playdough and decorated with pretty seashells. 🐚

This morning in toddler room we all went on a nature walk to collect sticks and leaves. The children were also eager to seek out the different flowers feathers that they could find on the ground. 🪶

Their favourite part of the walk was getting to visit our Chickens and Peacocks. They were fascinated by the sounds the animals were making and some children even had a go at imitating the animal noises. 🦚 🐔

In the afternoon we extended the activity by encouraging the children to have a go at decorating their own fairies using the leaves and sticks they had collected. They were eager to investigate how they could use their hands and the glue dabbers to transfer the glue onto their paper.📄

Their favourite part of decorating their fairy was getting to choose their own leaves, sticks and feathers and place them independently.❤️

Overall, the children had lots of fun with this extended activity and it was a lovely way to incorporate their interests of animals and messy play to promote their communication and language and their physical development.🥰🙌🏼

We’ve been exploring some different textures this week in baby room. 🙌🏼

We explored a ‘lava lamp tray’ using oil and different coloured water. 💧

We practiced squeezing our pipettes to support our fine motor skills. It was exciting to see the water and the oil separated in the tray. 👏

This activity also helped introduce the babies to different colours and begin to learn their names. 🥰

We also had a sand and shaving foam activity which the babies really enjoyed. ❤️

We hid different objects in the sand such as rocks and shells and we explored what textures they might be too. The babies used spades and rakes to explore the sand. 🐚

This week in baby room, we decided to do some more baking! 😋

We made healthy banana and blueberry muffins. 🫐

The babies started off by mashing their fruit with a fork and some of them were able to identify the fruits. ✅

We spoke about the different ingredients we had in the bowls and used some key single words such as mix, bowl, spoon and fork. 🥣

The babies practiced their fine motor skills by scooping the mixture into the cupcakes cases and mixing the mixture together. They enjoyed trying their muffins and taking them home! 😋 🥰

This week in big preschool we have been exploring words that start with a “Nn” sound! During our forest school sessions, we have learnt all about 🪺nests🪺 and the different insects and animal that live in them. The children made their own nests using willow and junk modelling🍃🎨

We have also been talking lots of about the night sky and the solar eclipse that happened on Wednesday! The children have enjoyed doing some night sky crafts with paint and pom-poms, and making moon pictures🌔☀️

This week in our Lavant Toddlers room we created a butterfly sticking activity to support the children’s understanding of different colours. 🌈

The children were all encouraged to choose which colours they wanted and they each had a go at investigating how they could stick the tissue paper to the sticky backed plastic.🙌🏼

Some children even had a go at identifying the colours they had picked when challenged by practitioners.👏

Their favourite part of this activity was being given the opportunity to explore the texture of the tissue paper and discover how easy it was to break into smaller pieces.💙

Overall the children had lots of fun creating their own butterfly and it was a fun way to include the children’s interests of bug to extend their knowledge of different colours and to support the building of the relationships they have with their peers.🥰

This week in our Toddlers room we took the children on a nature walk to see the lovely natural resources we have on the nursery site. 🪵

We spotted lots of lovely colourful flowers and we spoke about the primary colours that we could see. 🌺 some of the children even had a go at picking up sticks that they really liked.

When we returned to nursery we extended this activity by supporting the children to have a go at creating and their own flowers. 🌷

The children used sponges to collect the paint and they were eager to explore what patterns they would create.🙌🏼

Some children even had a go at using their fingers to explore the paint’s texture and to discover what marks they could create.👏

Overall the children had lots of fun decorating their own flowers and it was a lovely way to include the children’s interests of messy play and the outdoor environment to promote their communication and language and physical areas of their development.❤️

We’ve been enjoying our new puzzles and Montessori toys in baby room. 🥰

Our babies particularly love our mug tree with the hoops. It’s amazing to see them concentrating and using their pincer grip once demonstrated by a teacher. 🙌🏼

This activity supports the babies with their fine motor skills and preparing them for holding objects such as paintbrushes and pens. 😁

The babies also enjoy the object permanence box and are practising putting the coins through the slot. 🪙 .

This activity helps babies begin to form object permanence and understand that when the object is not visible it is still there. They enjoy opening up the drawer and finding the coins. 👏👏

This week we have been exploring words that start with the sound ‘j’! 😁

Today the children made their own homemade jam and got to enjoy it on a cracker🍓

We went for a walk to see if we could find any berries and the children discovered a massive blackberry bush near our woodlands, we took it in turns to pick the blackberries and collected them in a basket to take back to nursery🏡

When we got back we washed our berries and learnt about why it’s important to wash our fruit and hands when we are cooking. We mashed up the berries and spread them on a cracker to enjoy for a morning snack😋
