Forest School Tuesdays are back with Nature Nicki 🌿

This week we continued exploring The Snail and the Whale, which tied in perfectly with Nicki’s planning. Our nature-loving tots got hands-on, creating beautiful wooden snails using real tools like saws and hammers. They followed instructions carefully, showing fantastic listening skills, and respected the safety circle—waiting patiently while watching their friends take turns.

We enjoyed a light lunch from the mud kitchen, and a firm favourite was building a wooden car track—lots of teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving on display.

The children were fully engaged in observing and exploring the natural world around them, while our babies enjoyed a rich sensory experience, crawling through the woodland and discovering nature with all their senses.

Learning through play, risk-taking, and exploration at its best 🌳✨

Again, another extremely wet and miserable-looking day… but we adventure out anyway 🌧️

Today we visited Buckland Abbey, embracing the rain and making the most of our Easter trail. It’s always so special to see the strong bonds between our younger and older children – like one big extended family 💛

We met another childminder along the way and enjoyed playing games together in the rain while following the trail. The children worked brilliantly as a team, collecting clues and testing different letter combinations until they discovered the final word. Their teamwork and determination were amazing to see!

To top it all off, they were rewarded with an Easter egg for completing the challenge 🐣

One of the lovely National Trust volunteers even commented on how well behaved and organised the children were – such a lovely thing to hear and a real credit to them all 😊

Today’s experiences supported all areas of learning, particularly:

PSED – building friendships, teamwork and confidence. Expressing friendship and happiness!

Communication & Language – discussing ideas, problem solving together

Physical Development – walking, exploring and playing outdoors in all weather

Understanding the World – exploring nature and seasonal changes

Literacy & Maths – recognising letters, forming words and problem solving through the trail

Rain didn’t stop play today 🌧️🍃

We headed out to the National Trust and embraced exploring in all weathers. The children loved using our “egg baskets,” each filled with a different activity to spark curiosity and learning. From building dams and creating structures, to bird spotting, rolling dice for nature challenges, and using magnifying glasses to discover tadpoles 🐸🔍

These moments support our curriculum by encouraging:
🌱 Child-led exploration and curiosity
🌱 Rich language through shared experiences and discussion
🌱 Problem solving and critical thinking
🌱 Physical development and resilience outdoors
🌱 A deep connection with nature

Learning doesn’t stop when it rains — in fact, it becomes even more magical ✨

Squishy mud between little toes, puddle splashes and muddy “cooking” fun 💦🌿
Our children embraced outdoor learning today, enjoying barefoot sensory play in the mud kitchen. Experiences like this support their development across the EYFS while creating joyful, hands-on learning moments.

Stepping into spring with our annual visit to the Tulip Festival 🌷 lots of colours, smells and exploring the beautiful nature around us. As usual, loads of activities to do in there and a quick pet of the ponies before we headed home.

Happy mothers day 💓

Use it or lose it, guys! 🌿

Nature Nicki has a fantastic set-up for home educational sessions that truly put children first. Every session is thoughtfully planned with the child at the centre — they choose how much or how little they’d like to engage, giving them real ownership over their learning.

Nicki creates a safe, nurturing space where ALL children are free to be themselves and confidently lead the session in a way that feels right for them. It’s child-led, inclusive, and rooted in a genuine love for learning through nature.

Highly recommend 💚

EDIT - SESSION CANCELLED THIS WEEK

I currently do not have enough bookings to run this session on Friday. If you are thinking about booking on please let me know. I will make a decision tomorrow evening to run or cancel. The weather is gorgeous this week and the woods are ready for some fun!
