At JEM, we love connecting with people who are passionate about what we do!
To ensure we give everyone the best possible service, our policy is to share detailed course syllabuses, full breakdowns, and franchise package costings only after we’ve had a quick chat—either face-to-face or via a brief video call.
Because our course content and business models are commercially sensitive, this simple step helps us ensure we’re sharing our detailed materials with genuine prospective clients and partners (and keeps the occasional "fishing expedition" at bay!).
For general enquiries, we are always happy to share a top-level overview right away. But if you're looking for the full, granular details, let’s jump on a quick call! We’d love to get to know you, understand your goals, and answer all your questions properly.
Thank you so much for your understanding and continued support!

A Double Celebration Today! 🌊✨🥂
One year ago today, JEM Driving Instructor Training and Development was born.
It started with a simple, uncompromising vision: to build a driving instructor training community rooted in what truly matters—honesty, transparency, and genuine integrity.
Having worked in the industry for many years, I knew there was a better way to do things. I wanted to create a company that wouldn't just train people, but would genuinely value, respect, and empower every single instructor who walked through the door—a space built on trust and real professional support.
Today gave us an extra-special reason to raise a glass. Huge congratulations to James Wonnacott on passing his ADI Part 3 exam today! James has been training with JEM—and working directly with me—for just over a year now, and I couldn't be prouder to see all his hard work and dedication pay off. What a fantastic milestone to celebrate! 🚗🎉
It was lovely to catch up with the group who could make it to Newquay today to share a few drinks, enjoy good food, and take in the fantastic views over the sea. To everyone who couldn't join us—we toasted in your absence!
Looking back over this first year, where we are today has completely blown away my expectations:
28 Fully Qualified ADIs working all the way from Exeter down to Land's End
24 PDIs currently out on badge/trainee licence
12 New Trainees who have completed their DBS checks and are ready to start their journey with us
Our Wednesday and Thursday night training workshops are going great guns and continuing to grow every week!
To James, and to every single one of my amazing driving instructors who has trusted JEM, worked hard, and been part of this journey over the last 12 months: thank you. I have all of you to thank for where we are today. This celebration belongs to all of us.
Here’s to the community we’ve built, and to the next chapter! 🥂🚗💨

At the end of last week I was contacted by a trainee (PDI) training in Camborne/Pool, West Cornwall with some concerns about their training. We had a conversation in confidence. Simple, they’re finding the training confusing and didn’t feel like they were being supported properly. Here is the shocking part: in just a short period of time this trainee has seen three different trainers from the same regional driving school!!

That is the definition of being passed from pillar to post.
Even if a trainee is doing their best to adapt, this kind of revolving-door setup is highly damaging. How can anyone maintain continuity, build confidence, or receive consistent feedback when they are adjusting to a brand-new trainer from the passenger-seat dynamic every single week? It breaks the flow of learning and leads to inevitable confusion - science tells us this. This school is letting this trainee down!

If you’re finding this is happening to you, voice your concerns. You are investing your time, money, and future career into this training—you have every right to demand a consistent, dedicated mentor who actually knows you and your progress.

At JEM Driving Instructor Training and Development, we believe you deserve a stable foundation to build your career on.

When you train with JEM, you will never be treated like just a name on a spreadsheet. We provide proper, uninterrupted support. The trainer who starts with you is the trainer who stays with you, guiding you through your whole journey. No hand-offs, no mixed messages, and no disruption to your progress.

If you want a training partner who actually stands by you instead of passing you off just to suit their business needs, choose consistency. Choose JEM.

Are you feeling lost in your driving instructor training? Let’s get you on the right track.
Training to become an Approved Driving Instructor is a significant investment of your time, money, and energy. But what happens when things don't feel quite right?
I speak to trainees across Somerset, Devon, and Cornwall who, despite having a trainer or being attached to a driving school, feel confused, unsure, or quietly doubt they are being taught the right things.
If you are currently preparing for your Part 3 but feel like your trainer doesn't truly understand the depth of what is required to pass, I am offering a no-strings-attached second opinion.
You do not have to leave your current trainer or driving school to speak with me. Whether you'd like me to sit in the back of one of your lessons to observe, or you simply want to meet up for a coffee and a confidential chat about your progress and potential needs, I am here to help. Sometimes, a fresh set of experienced eyes is all it takes to make things click.
A quick piece of advice for anyone looking to sign up with a regional driving school:
Before you commit, ask them for their cold, hard data. Ask to see their most recent Part 3 results—specifically, their ratio of passes to fails—and ask them to back it up in writing.
In this industry, the experience of the team training you is everything. Ultimately, what really counts is that you pass your Part 3, and to do that, you need a trainer who knows exactly what it takes to get you there.
If you want a second opinion on your training, or just want to ensure you are on the right path, send me a private message or email me at [email protected]. Let's have a chat.

A busy Wednesday across the region, but I wouldn't have it any other way! 👋

I wanted to share a quick update on what an incredibly productive day looked like for me yesterday at JEM Driving Instructor Training & Development. It was a full day of travel and training across the region, and it really highlighted why I love doing what I do to support instructors across Somerset, Devon, and Cornwall.
Here is how yesterday mapped out:
8:00 AM – 11:00 AM (Camborne): Started bright and early, travelling down from Launceston to Camborne to work 1-on-1 with a fantastic instructor preparing for their Part 3. There is nothing quite like seeing that confidence and skill build during a dedicated session.
12:00 PM – 2:30 PM (Redruth): Headed over to the Penventon Park Hotel to host our daytime classroom workshop. A massive thank you to the brilliant group of instructors who came along. We caught up over teas and coffees and spent two and a half hours diving deep into teaching and learning strategies, focusing on those essential competencies on the SC1.
3:00 PM – 5:00 PM: Straight into another 2-hour development session with another instructor, fine-tuning skills and sharing practical strategies.
6:30 PM – 8:00 PM (Online): Made it back to Launceston just in time to fire up the laptop and log onto Teams. We wrapped up the day with our regular Wednesday evening workshop, welcoming a great bunch of instructors from all over the country to discuss teaching and learning strategies online.
From face-to-face coaching down in Cornwall to national logging-in on Teams, yesterday reminded me just how dedicated the people in our industry truly are. I feel incredibly privileged to be trusted by so many professionals across the Southwest and beyond to help them develop their skills.
If you are looking to elevate your training, prepare for an upcoming check, or just want to join a supportive community of driving instructors, you are always more than welcome to join us.
We run these classroom workshops and weekly Teams sessions regularly. If you'd like to come along to the next ones or find out more, feel free to drop me a message on here or reach out directly at [email protected].
Have a great day, everyone!

What a brilliant evening and what a turn out. A huge thank you to everyone who joined the JEM Driving Instructor Training workshop tonight. We had a fantastic turnout on Teams, diving deep into the concepts of risk management.

A quick reminder for everyone: we shifted to Thursday this week so nobody had to choose between professional development and cheering on England in the World Cup! Next week, we are right back to our usual Wednesday slot.
I have to say, I am incredibly humbled by the feedback flooding in lately. Hearing from PDIs across the country—who find me on Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok—saying these weekly sessions are the direct reason they are passing their Part 3 exams means the world to me. Even my local instructors, whom I’m privileged to train face-to-face each week, are telling me how much value these sessions are adding to their businesses.
Every single week, I sit down to develop brand-new, cutting-edge training content. It takes hours of hard work and late nights, but when I see this amazing community growing and succeeding, it makes every second worth it. My goal is simple: to give both ADIs and PDIs the practical tools they need to thrive.
If you are a driving instructor and want to level up your skills, you are more than welcome to jump in with us next Wednesday.
📩 Just drop me an email at [email protected] and I’ll get you added to the group.
Wishing you all a successful week on the road, and let's keep raising the standard together! 🚘

365 DAYS OF DOING IT THE RIGHT WAY 🎉
As we approach almost a year of trading, I wanted to take a quiet moment to reflect, say thank you, and celebrate a milestone I am incredibly proud of.
When we started this journey, the vision was simple: to build a driving school and instructor training hub built entirely on trust, honesty, and complete transparency. We wanted to offer something truly unique in our industry—something that refuses to cut corners, built on genuine value, decades of experience, and a total commitment to the professionals who trust us with their careers.
Today, I am so proud to say that JEM Driving Instructor Training and Development is rapidly becoming the regional market leader in delivering new driving instructor training across Devon and Cornwall. 📈
But let’s be clear about what "market leader" means to us. To be completely honest, anyone can build or buy a big business if they have a big enough budget. You can pay for company logos, treat people like a factory production line, and chase huge numbers. But so often in this industry, when a company chases quantity, it is the clients who suffer on quality. Bigness is not greatness.
What a large company cannot buy is decades of hands-on experience, the late nights spent perfecting training material, and the hard-earned trust of a local community.
To our team at JEM, being a market leader isn't about running a conveyor belt just to take the money. It’s about quality. It’s about the value we deliver, the honesty we bring to our training, and the total transparency of our business. Most of all, it means seeing our trainee driving instructors and established instructors truly succeed where it really matters.
Right now, our success rate at the crucial Part 3 exam is far outweighing other regional companies. That isn’t by accident. It is a direct testament to the unique way we do things here.
What makes us different? We put quality back where it belongs: in the car. 🚗💨
We know the industry is changing, but we refuse to substitute quality for convenience.
100% In-Car & Face-to-Face: Every single one of your DVSA-mandated training hours with us is delivered face-to-face, in a real car, with a trainer who has decades of industry experience.
In Addition, Not Instead Of: We never substitute in-car training with pre-recorded videos, Zoom/teams sessions, or classroom workshops. While we do run brilliant, interactive online weekly workshops and regular classroom sessions, these are always in addition to your in-car hours, never instead of them.
Completely Free Extra Value: For our trainees, all of those extra weekly online workshops and classroom sessions are 100% free of charge. You also receive premium training manuals (worth over £100), plus your own personalised, branded headboxes.
No Premium Trainee Fees: We firmly believe in supporting you into the industry, which is why we do not charge a premium for your sponsorship and validation process.
Supporting the Wider Driving Instructor Community 🤝
We believe in raising standards across the board. That’s why we don't keep our expertise behind closed doors. We regularly create and share high-value Continuous Professional Development (CPD) content across multiple platforms, opening our doors to support the wider driving instructor community alongside our own clients.
To every single trainee driving instructor and qualified instructor who has trusted JEM over the past year, to our incredible team, and to the wider community supporting us: thank you from the bottom of my heart. The statistics bear out our success, but your hard work and real-world success is what makes us leaders.
Here’s to a phenomenal first year, smashing more Part 3 exams, and continuing to set the gold standard for driving schools in the South West!

The Screen-Time Trap vs. Real-Car Reality: Why Virtual Instructor Training is Costing PDIs Their Qualifications
There is a growing, troubling trend in the driving instructor training industry. Several national and regional training providers have quietly shifted their business models. To cut corporate overheads, maximize profit margins, and reduce trainer hours, they are pulling Potential Driving Instructors (PDIs) out of the car and placing them in front of computer screens.
They are replacing critical, mandatory in-car coaching with mass-attended Zoom and Teams workshops, attempting to teach a high-stakes, practical vocational skill via a 2D grid of we**ams.
The science of human learning is entirely clear on why this fails:
The Breakdown of Situated Cognition: Educational psychology proves that complex skills are bound to the environment in which they are learned. Research shows that when a person learns a high-stress skill in an abstract environment (like a kitchen table), the brain struggles to retrieve that information when returned to the real world. A PDI can analyze a driving fault perfectly on a Zoom screen, but freeze on their Part 3 test because they haven't practiced doing it under the cognitive load of a moving vehicle.
The "Haptic and Sensory" Gap: Peer-reviewed studies comparing face-to-face learning to online methods for practical skills show a massive drop-off in online formats for tasks requiring physical awareness and sensory integration. On a we**am, a PDI cannot develop the physical muscle memory required for dual-control intervention, nor can they read the subtle changes in a pupil's body language or tension.
The Failure of Passive Group Learning: Large schools use group Zoom calls to scale their training cheaply, claiming PDIs can "learn by watching." However, neuroscience shows that the brain’s mirror neurons—the cells responsible for learning by observation—fire significantly less when watching a flat, 2D screen compared to sitting in a 3D environment. On Zoom, training shifts from active coaching to passive information consumption.
When driving schools substitute screen time for wheel time to protect their bottom line, it is the PDI who pays the ultimate price with a failed test.
How We Do It Properly: Uncompromised In-Car Excellence
At JEM Driving Instructor Training and Development, we believe that to become an exceptional driving instructor, you need to train exactly where your career will happen: in the car.
From the absolute moment you pass your Part 1 exam, your practical journey with us begins exactly where it should—face-to-face and in-car.
100% Core In-Car Training: We conduct every single one of your mandatory 40 hours of initial training face-to-face, in-car.
True Validation Support: During the critical trainee license period, the additional 20 hours of validation training are delivered entirely in-car, providing real-time feedback when you need it most.
The Right Tool for the Right Job: Do we use online platforms like Microsoft Teams? Yes—but only to bolster, never to replace. We use digital workshops strictly as an extra layer to build theoretical knowledge on top of your mandatory hours, not as a cheap substitute for physical training.
Real-World Training Leads to Real-World Results
The DVSA Part 3 exam doesn't test how well you can watch a slideshow on a laptop; it tests your ability to actively manage risk, analyze faults on the move, and coach a real human being next to you.
Because our trainees spend their entire journey acclimatizing to the actual spatial pressures, visual search patterns, and real-world dynamics of the car cabin, they don't freeze on test day. They have the genuine confidence that only comes from real, face-to-face mentorship.
By refusing to compromise on practical training, JEM Driving Instructor Training and Development boasts a significantly higher, more effective Part 3 pass rate than screen-reliant alternatives. We remain fully committed to delivering training the right way: in the car, where it counts.
