We are immensely proud of the children who represented Team St Stephens Community Academy today in the 3 Tors Challenge. They joined 8 other teams from around the area to put all their preparation into practice. Today was a real test of resilience, teamwork and determination. The children navigated challenging terrain, read maps and used their problem-solving skills to make decisions together. They encouraged one another when legs grew tired, and showed the kind of communication and leadership that makes us so proud. Experiences like this help children discover just what they are capable of, and the learning will stay with them long after today.

A huge thank you to Mrs Julian for accompanying the team and training with them over the past half term. She told us how brilliantly they worked together, demonstrating resilience and leadership skills throughout.

Many thanks also to Michelle Roberts from Arena for enabling this exciting event to take place.

A very tired group of children returned, but all of them were very proud of their achievement. Well done, Team St Stephens.

As part of our Harvest learning in St Stephens Community Academy Pre-School, we shared the story of The Little Red Hen and were inspired to make our very own bread.We carefully weighed and measured the ingredients, developing our maths and cooking skills along the way. We then rolled, shaped and baked the dough, creating a delicious loaf that we were incredibly proud of. In fact, we were so pleased with our finished bread that we took it to show Mrs Furber!

The best part was enjoying our homemade bread at snack time. It tasted delicious, especially with butter and jam. What a wonderful way to bring our learning to life

A huge thank you to everyone who attended, supported, volunteered and helped run our first PTFA disco of the new school year. There was great dancing, games, snacks and fun with friends, all while raising money for school resources and enrichment activities. We raised an amazing £500!

We don't think we can ever express enough gratitude for the kindness and generosity of our school community towards our Link to Hope Christmas shoebox appeal.

On Friday, our wonderful UNICEF steering group sorted and organised all the donations and packed the shoeboxes for families and elderly people in some of the poorest countries around the world. This humanitarian act of global kindness demonstrates exactly why we embed our Rights Respecting Gold award: children recognising that every child has rights, families helping families, communities supporting communities.

We cannot wait to send these special boxes, filled with love and hope, on to the next stage of their journey. A heartfelt THANKYOU to Team St Stephens Community Academy.

Once again the sun is shining brightly here at Team St Stephens Community Academy. Congratulations to everyone who has been positively noticed this week for being amazing advocates for each other and showing resilience, reflection, respect and resourcefulness in their learning.

Inspired by the national Harry Potter Day earlier this term, we were delighted to welcome families and friends into school yesterday for our end of day reading session.Our theme of the day was Magic and Mystery.

Thank you to everyone who joined us to share books and help develop a love of reading with the children. It was wonderful to see so many of you enjoying stories together, and the excitement across the school was lovely to see.

We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. Look out for our next shared reading session together .

Schools across the region are busy preparing for the 3 Tors Challenge on Dartmoor, which takes place on Tuesday 20th October. Children are currently taking part in progressive training sessions in the build-up to this exciting adventure. Their preparation includes learning how to behave responsibly and safely in a wild environment, developing map-reading and compass navigation skills, and strengthening their leadership, teamwork and problem-solving abilities.
At St Stephens, we are incredibly proud of our team of children and the commitment, enthusiasm and determination they have shown throughout their training. Taking part in the 3 Tors Challenge is about far more than completing a route; it is an opportunity for children to build resilience, confidence and independence while working together towards a common goal.
As they prepare to head out onto the open moor, they are developing a range of valuable life skills, including communication, decision-making, perseverance and responsibility. They are learning how to support one another, overcome challenges as a team and adapt to changing conditions in the outdoors. These experiences help to nurture confident, capable young people who are ready to embrace new adventures.
We can't wait to see Team St Stephens Community Academy head out into the wild and put all of their hard work into practice. We know they will represent our school brilliantly, and we wish them every success as they take on this exciting challenge.

We were delighted to welcome our friend from Launceston Rotary, Sandra Maizels, who shared her first-hand experiences of childhood during World War II. Her visit enriched our Year 6 pupils' understanding of the impact of the war on ordinary people and brought their history learning vividly to life.

Sandra, who lived in London during the war, spoke about her memories of hearing bombs falling during the Blitz and the challenges of rationing, which even affected birthday celebrations. She also recalled sheltering in the cupboard under the stairs when the bombing was particularly intense. Listening to these personal memories helped the children to appreciate what life was really like for families during wartime and made the historical events they have been studying feel much more real and meaningful.

Prior to the visit, the children had carefully prepared a range of thoughtful questions. Sandra answered them brilliantly, providing fascinating insights and helping to deepen their understanding of this important period in history. The opportunity to hear first-hand testimony from someone who experienced the war greatly enhanced the children's learning and encouraged them to reflect on the resilience and courage shown by people during those challenging times.

We would like to thank Sandra for giving her time so generously and for sharing her remarkable memories with us. Her visit was both memorable and inspiring, and one that the children will remember for many years to come.
