Viking Soup
Mrs Teaz class were delighted to welcome Development Chef Williams from Elior UK to school to make tasty Viking Vegetable soup to round off our Viking Topic and as part of our World of Work activities.
First the children learned about health and safety – washing hands, using knives correctly and learning about how to prepare/cook for people with allergies.
Then the children chopped their vegetables, correctly naming them and discussing how Vikings would have prepared them.
After that Chef Williams put the vegetables in a pot with vegetable oil to sweat, which releases the flavour. He then added lentils, peas, stock and chopped tin tomatoes (not a Viking ingredient!!). While the soup was cooking he told us about his career and the skills he learned at school that help him to be successful in his job such as measuring, timing, communicating, reading and writing.
Finally, the children had a chance to taste parsley which was then added to their soup.
Once the soup was ready, we enjoyed eating the soup and were all given a tub to take home to share with our adults.
We are very grateful to Chef Wiliams for once again joining us at St. Mary’s for a fantastic lesson. Thank you to Elior UK for providing all of the food that made this opportunity possible. He also gave us; chef hats, a recipe sheet and fun Viking food facts to take home as well as prizes for everyone!
We look forward to welcoming him back to St. Mary’s in March to work with our ‘Class of 2027’ on some delicious dishes as part of our World of Work Workshops.
