🏁 WOW… look what our Reception children have been up to! 🏁

This all started with their own idea. 💡

Inspired by what they already knew about car racing, a group of our Reception pupils decided they wanted to design and build their own ‘bangers’ using our large-scale loose parts — and what a fantastic example of children turning an idea into purposeful play and learning! 🚗💥

Working together, the children decided what they wanted to build, how they could make it work and what they needed to do to bring their ideas to life. They moved and manoeuvred large tyres, crates and other loose parts, communicated their thinking, listened to one another, negotiated, solved problems and adapted their plans as they went.

There was so much learning taking place:

🔨 Physical development – developing strength, coordination and control as they lifted, carried, pushed and positioned large objects.

🧠 Thinking and problem-solving – making decisions, testing ideas, overcoming challenges and adapting their plans.

💬 Communication and language – sharing ideas, listening to others, explaining their thinking and negotiating together.

🤝 Personal, social and emotional development – cooperating, taking turns, resolving differences and working towards a shared goal.

📚 Building on prior knowledge – taking what they already knew about car racing and using it to create, design and play in a new context.

Most importantly, we saw the Characteristics of Effective Teaching and Learning in action. The children were playing and exploring, actively learning, and creating and thinking critically as they developed their own ideas, persevered with challenges and worked collaboratively to bring their vision to life.

✨ Their idea. Their design. Their play. Their learning. ✨

This is purposeful play at its very best! ❤️

It’s been a busy but fun filled week in our Rainbow room. We’ve enjoyed exploring our garden, tipping and poring water and taking turns with our friends.
We have been making lots of different faces while pointing to our features, and had a lot of fun painting and mixing colours together as a group.

What a lovely first full week in Rainbows 🌈

Yesterday some of the rainbows came to visit us in nursery and to make the visit even better, Lisa from the kitchen shared a whole range of fruits with us for our afternoon snack! We had apple, pineapple, kiwi and orange slices. Thank you Lisa, it was super yummy! ☺️

We have had a great first week of PE in Year 1. We’ve practiced our football skills and done some throwing and catching!

Just a reminder that children need a change of shoes for PE as well as their black shorts and white T-shirt 😊

🔢 Year 2 Maths

This week, Year 2 have been using Base 10 to recognise tens and ones in two-digit numbers.

We have been making numbers using tens and ones and talking about the value of each digit.

For example; “There are 3 tens and 4 ones. The number is 34”. 🌟

Well done, Year 2! 👏

Today in computing, Year 6 have been learning about communication and collaboration, exploring how data packets travel across the internet. 📦🌍

The children worked together to understand how information is broken down, transferred and reassembled at its destination.

Great teamwork, problem-solving and plenty of curious minds! 💻

This afternoon in Art, Year 4 began learning about the Pop art movement. We made fact files about Andy Warhol using independent research. I was so impressed with the care the children took and their independence in finding out facts!🎨
