☀️ Helping Children Stay Emotionally Regulated in Hot Weather ☀️

When temperatures rise, it’s not just adults who feel the heat—children can too. Hot weather can make little ones feel tired, overwhelmed, irritable, and more prone to emotional outbursts.

Here are a few simple ways to support their emotional wellbeing during warm days:

💧 Keep them well hydrated with regular drinks throughout the day.
🌳 Seek shade or stay indoors during the hottest part of the day.
🧊 Offer cooling activities like water play, cool baths, frozen fruit, or damp flannels.
😴 Allow for extra rest—heat can be exhausting, especially for younger children.
🍉 Provide regular snacks and light meals to help maintain energy levels.
❤️ Be patient and acknowledge their feelings: “It’s really hot today, and that can make our bodies and emotions feel different.”
🧸 Keep routines as consistent as possible while allowing for flexibility when needed.

Remember, children often communicate discomfort through their behaviour. A little extra understanding, calm reassurance, and opportunities to cool down can make a big difference.
