New carbon could signal step-change for the world’s most popular batteries Scientists have created a new type of carbon that could make the batteries in our phones, tablet computers and laptops safer, more powerful, quicker to charge and longer lasting.

It’s been a big day for global rankings! We've been placed in the top 150 of more than 1,000 institutions in the new QS World University Rankings. And, we’ve just been ranked in the top 20 of Golden Age (1945-1967) universities from around the world!

Lancaster University in world rankings top 150 Lancaster is ranked 131 out of more than 1,000 institutions in the new QS World University Rankings released today.

Emily Roberts: “Today I’m in the library all day. I’ve got a presentation and a lot of essays to do. There’s 20,000 words to write before next term, so I’m trying to sort that out. I don’t mind the presentation, I quite like them. It’ll be on Antony and Cleopatra by Shakespeare, so I’ve quite enjoyed learning about the Roman and Egyptian history.”
