It is Children's Mental Health Week. What a great time to take a moment to think about what you can do to support the mental health of the children in your life. Are they aware of some of the things they can do to look after their own mental health?

Being outside is a wonderful way to boost your mental health. Nature can reduce stress, anxiety and depression; increase your confidence and self-esteem; and make you feel more relaxed.

Today at Forest School we will be engaging in some activities to think about mental health: forest bathing, making tree friends, mindfully looking at natural objects, yoga and thinking about what we like best while in the woods. One of my favourite things is hearing and seeing the birds like this beautiful robin!

What do you do to stay mentally healthy? We love sharing ideas 💚

Reception had a great few weeks of Forest School: learning how to stay safe around the fire; working together to build dens; getting messy in the mud kitchen; building their own stickmen; testing their balance on the slackline; and searching for minibeasts!

Finding it hard to get outside with the little ones this winter? Have a look for inspiration from this list from the National Trust.

Did you know, lots of National Trust places you can go for an explore around the grounds for free even if you are not a member? They're great places for muddy walks, tree climbing and animal spotting! My local Scotney Castle- National Trust is a wonderful place, doing plenty for nature conservation- if you've not been, pop on your wellies and go! Where is your favourite site?

Find out which ‘50 things to do before you’re 11¾’ activities you can do in winter, at home or at National Trust places.

No Forest School for Under Fives today or next week. We'll be back on Friday 10th March.

In the meantime, can you find any snowdrops out and about? We spotted these ones at Lamberhurst's church. They are such wonderful flower; often considered a sign of hope, they are one of the first indicators that spring is on the way. Apparently the flower used to be used as a painkiller and now something in the bulbs is used in a drug to support people with dementia.

The Woodland Trust are interested in finding out when people's first sightings each year are of various plants and animals (including snowdrops). The data is helping them to track the effects of climate change on the nature around us. Maybe you could go on a nature walk and see how many signs of spring you can spot then report back: https://naturescalendar.woodlandtrust.org.uk/
