Egerton Pre-School, Knutsford aims to provide a happy and safe place for children to come to play, where they will be able to build trusting relationships with the staff and their peers as they learn and develop. They will be heard, feel valued and know they are special and know they will not be judged when they make mistakes. Every child does matter in our setting and every child will be supporte
d as they strive to reach their full potential. Our fabulous environment and close interactions with children we believe are our key strengths in children’s well-being and brain development. Our training has told us that ‘brain activity is at its highest when a child is deeply involved in something that fascinates challenges them and makes them happy’. This has inspired us to learn more about Professor Ferre Laevers and his Leuven Scales of emotional well being and involvement. Research and training will help us embed this practice and develop a rich learning environment which will ensure our vision is fully met and help us understand that children are indeed unique as what will excite one child will not necessarily have the same effect on another. We will also continue to consider how we plan for our key children. What we plan and make accessible to children can have a huge impact on their learning and development. Only by enabling the environment and playing alongside our children, stretching their thinking, modelling language and finding ‘teaching moments’ can we ensure children are reaching their maximum learning potential. Following ‘Maths’ training we will carry out an audit and look at how we can enhance our provision in this area to ensure maximum learning. Egerton Pre-School operates from a detached property on Bexton Road in Knutsford. The single story building is comprised of an enclosed porch leading to the entrance hall where children hang their coats and bags. From the main play area children have easy access to the toilets, community room and the rear external play area. The rear of the property has an open wooden awning with an opaque polymer roof allowing for all-weather play. The purpose built garden has artificial grass, a dipping pond, a treehouse, and lots of tree-shaded space to run and play. There’s also a sandbox, a Wendy house and a vegetable patch.
