Yesterday, after hearing the delightful story of The Tale of the Baby Beetroot the children’s curiosity blossom. They were eager to try beetroot for themselves along with other vegetables mentioned in the story . Inspired by their enthusiasm a group of our older children took a trip to the shops to explore and choose some fresh products together.

We will be tasting these and other vegetables on Wednesday as part of our activities for Eat Your Veg Day.

This week we’ve been celebrating Great Big Green week with lots of exciting hands on activities including :-

The children made bird feeders which they proudly took home to hang in their gardens. We can’t wait to hear about their feathered the friends they will hopefully attracted.

We planted onion bulbs together and over the next few weeks, we will be watching them grow right here in our setting. With a little care and patience, we’re hoping that the children will be able to take some home to enjoy.

We explore our wonderful world by looking closely at a globe, talking about different countries and noticing some of the beautiful illustrations that showed the diversity of our planet.

We’ve been busy making seed balls a wonderful hands-on activities that not only supports our ecosystems but also inspires conversations about wildflowers, pollinators and the fascinating world of plant life. The children loved getting their hands into the mix, learning how seeds can be protected and given the best chance to grow.

It’s been a week full of curiosity, care for the nature and global discovery - a perfect way to celebrate our planet in the small steps we can take to protect it.

Alongside this the children been exploring 2D shapes in creative and imaginative ways using our magnetic tiles and our new giant mosaic shapes. They’ve been constructing rocket, buildings and all sorts of adjective designs. These activities encourage problem-solving, teamwork and a greater understanding of shapes and patterns all of while having lots of fun!

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us to say goodbye to Mrs Morris. She was incredibly touched by the kind words, cards and gifts.

For over 25 years, Mrs Morris has shown unwavering devotion to our setting and all the children she has cared for. She will be greatly missed by us all.

We wish her the very best for her next chapter and hope she will visit us from time to time.

We had pure excitement in the setting today as the children watched two of our butterflies finally emerge from their cocoons!

Celebrating World Bee Day: We paired our butterfly excitement with bee-themed learning. The children created wonderful playdough models and painted bees for our walls. We learned how crucial bees are to our planet. The children were fascinated to discover how bees collect and spread pollen to help plants grow

Our New Crates Are Sparking Big Imaginations!

It’s been wonderful to see how much the children have taken to our new crates. They’ve been turning them into all sorts of exciting adventures — from building long train carriages for epic journeys, to creating stepping-stone trails that test their balance and teamwork.

Every day brings a new twist to their imaginative play, and it’s a joy to watch their creativity, problem-solving, and storytelling skills come to life. Who knew a simple crate could become a ticket to so many worlds?

The children have shown a renewed enthusiasm for the mud kitchen since it was relocated to its new position, engaging in more frequent and imaginative play.

Some of the children explored the school field and woodland, eagerly searching for natural treasures — twigs, leaves, stones, daisies and dandelion flowers — to bring back to our mud kitchen. Their excitement was infectious as they imagined all the creative recipes they could make.

This week most of the children’s time was spent outside, where they engaged with the different activities on offer. Whether it was investigating nature, participating in group games, or experimenting with new skills, they made the most of the outdoor environment.

This week the children have worked together and showed an interest in exploring the Wooden Community Blocks outdoors to build ramps of different heights to roll some of our tyres down ... seeing how far they will go.

This has kept the children engage for long periods of time with other children joining in and bringing their own idea.

Some of the children have been working on their balancing skills walking along our balancing beams and ladder.
