The Little Acorns have had fun learning how to use a range of practical skills and tools in the forest.
From using mallet and pegs, to whittling with vegetable peelers, to tying knots and making stick puppets - they've all had a good go, supported by our knowledgeable practitioners. While these experiences come with higher levels of risk, they provide rich opportunities for developing confidence, self-esteem, independent risk assessment, fine motor skills, sequencing and listening skills as well as helping children gain a deeper understanding of technology and how it can help us in our daily lives. Our Little Acorns have been so proud of their achievements and creations 😍

We’re absolutely delighted to have been shortlisted as finalists in the Early Years Scotland Awards in the "Small Changes, Big Impact" category, recognising our work to support children's transitions.

It’s wonderful to see our efforts acknowledged, especially as we see every day the positive difference these small changes are making for the children in our care.

We are back again after a very well-deserved two weeks off, hunting fossils on sandy Gotland beaches while detoxing ourselves from digital media.

Very excited to be back for a new term of learning and fun with our Little Acorns! 😊

We had the absolute best time at Almond Valley with our favs Kathleen Bell Childminding and Samantha's House the other week.

Loved spending a day with friends and watching new friendships develop between the children.

Can't wait to see you guys again! ❤️

We've been using pastels and charcoal to explore minibeast habitats, trying to answer the questions of "where do they live?" and "why do they live there?".

This fusion of mark-making, creative expression and natural science was great for encouraging reasoning skills, listening and talking, vocabulary and early reading and writing skills ❤️

Our Little Acorns have used their creative expression to create their own imaginative minibeasts in the forest using clay and natural materials.

It inspired some amazing conversations about what a minibeast is, and what their different defining parts are - shells, antennae, wings, lots of legs....

The Acorns were so proud of their creations and loved assigning them names and coming up with stories for them 😍🐜🐛🪲🐞🕸🪳🕷🐌🦋

Our little Acorns continue to be fascinated by all things minibeast! This week, we took a wee walk down to the park to draw chalk minibeasts. The Acorns had the best time practising their mark-making skills while building vocabulary around insects and invertebrates. We left the most colourful park behind - full of wriggly legs and butterfly wings! 🦋🐌🕷🪳🕸🐞🪲🐛🐜

The Little Acorns have had lots of fun going bug hunting over the last few weeks, following their interest in minibeasts.

They've learned about where minibeasts live, how to find them and how to care for them, helping our children develop empathy and nature connection.

We've also learned basic research skills, using Picture Insect to find out the names of the insects we've caught. We've spotted Devil's Coach Horse Beetles, Violet Ground Beetles and Caterpillar Hunter Beetles. 🪲🐞🕸🪳🕷🐌🦋🐜🐛
