Maple Tree Class have had a fantastic week filled with learning, exploration and lots of opportunities to develop our communication, independence and problem-solving skills.
We start our day with our Literacy lesson and this half term we have been exploring the story of 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears'. We have spent the last few weeks getting to know the story and identifying the key characters, objects and adjectives within it.
This week we have been joining in with some of the repeated phrases and sequencing the key events in the story. It has been wonderful to see the children becoming increasingly familiar with the text and we can't wait for the next phase, where they will write their own versions of story. I wonder what they will come up with!
In Numeracy, we have been learning all about time. We began the topic by exploring the concepts of day and night using symbols, lights and sensory props. Then we moved on to sequencing a variety of symbols that represent different parts of our daily timetable. We have even begun to use O' Clock times to identify what time of day key events happen. The favourite time of day seems to be dinner time!
In the afternoons, we have been busy exploring Electricity in Science. We have enjoyed watching what happens when we rub our hair with balloons - seeing our friends’ hair stand up was so funny! We also explored battery-operated toys and using switches to make various devices work. This has helped us develop our understanding of cause and effect. Some of us have taken this concept further by exploring circuits. We loved discovering what happened when the different components were connected and discovering we could make a bulb light up!
In addition to this, we also spend one afternoon a week honing our ICT skills and learning to use basic computer programmes to type our names. Plus, of course we continue to develop our phonics and handwriting skills through a combination of 1:1 interventions and circle time activities. We have especially enjoyed our fine motor activities which help us strengthen our hands, develop our coordination, and prepare us for writing.
It has been a busy and brilliant week in Maple Tree Class, and we are incredibly proud of all the children and the effort they have put into their learning.
