🐝Team In-Service day 1🐝

We’re pleased to share that our staff have taken part in a valuable day of training and professional development today. Staff rotated around three different training sessions, giving everyone the opportunity to learn from each speaker and bring new ideas back into our setting.

🌟 Session 1 – Dr Suzanne Zeedyk
Suzanne is a research scientist who focuses on babies’ innate capacity to connect. Staff explored how strong relationships support children’s brain development, resilience and wellbeing, as well as the importance of connection, compassion and positive relationships.

🌿 Session 2 – Stewart Westwater, Fife Council
Staff explored pedagogical practices and how to support high-quality interactions with children. The session focused on strengthening our practice and ensuring children experience meaningful, responsive interactions that support their learning and development.

🌳 Session 3 – Amanda Carlin, Little Beehive Nursery, Kirkcaldy
Staff were introduced to outdoor learning and explored how nature can help children develop confidence, resilience, curiosity and strong relationships. The session included practical activities, including hammock building.
We are always committed to investing in our staff’s learning and development so that we can continue to provide the very best experiences, care and learning opportunities for our children. 💛

Goodbye and Good Luck!
As we come to the end of your nursery journey, we want to say how proud we are of each and every one of you.

It has been such a joy to watch you grow, learn, make friends, and become the wonderful, confident children you are today. We have shared so many happy memories together — from your first days at nursery to all the laughter, adventures, stories, and special moments along the way.

Now it is time for an exciting new adventure as you move on to school. We know you will take with you all the skills, kindness, curiosity, and confidence you have developed here at nursery. We hope you continue to ask questions, try new things, make new friends, and enjoy every moment of your next chapter.

To all our families, thank you for trusting us to be part of your child's early years. It has been a privilege to get to know your children and to share in their growth and achievements. Your support and partnership have meant so much to us.

Although we will miss seeing your smiling faces every day, we are so excited to see what the future holds for you all.

Remember, you will always be a special part of our nursery family.

🌟 We’ve Achieved Silver Rights Accreditation! 🌟

As most of you are aware, this morning we had our Silver Rights Accreditation assessment, which took place from 9:30 am–12 pm via Teams! 💻

The assessment involved Kate, our assessor, speaking with Maddi and me about our journey from Bronze to Silver and the work we have undertaken along the way.

Kate then spoke with 7 of our children from E4/5, all of whom were absolutely amazing! 🌟 Kate asked the children questions about their rights, whether their rights could be taken away, and what their rights mean to them. We were incredibly proud to hear the children confidently share their understanding and experiences.

Kate then spoke with 1 parent — thank you so much, Suzy! 💙 Suzy supported what Maddi and I had shared and also spoke about her experiences. This was further supported by the wonderful comments and feedback that parents sent in over the weekend — thank you to everyone who took the time to contribute!

To finish the assessment, Kate spoke with a further 4 members of our team, who all demonstrated their commitment to embedding the UNCRC (United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child) within our setting.

After all of this, we are incredibly proud to announce that, following a lot of hard work, dedication and commitment from our whole team, we have officially received our Silver Rights Accreditation today! 🥈👏🎉

This achievement is a fantastic recognition of the work we have put in to ensure that children’s rights, inclusion, dignity and respect remain at the heart of everything we do.

A huge thank you to our amazing team for your hard work, passion and commitment. This accreditation is a reflection of the effort that everyone has contributed, and it is something we can all be incredibly proud of. 💙

A special thank you to our children and families for helping us demonstrate what a rights-respecting setting means in practice. Your voices, experiences and contributions have been such an important part of our journey. 🌟

Today is definitely a day to celebrate! 🥳🥈 But it is also the beginning of the next chapter as we continue to learn, improve and ensure that children’s rights are embedded in everything we do.

🖼️🐠 Art Galleries – Visit 2 🌊☀️💛

What another fantastic adventure at the art galleries! We are so excited to continue being part of their upcoming exhibition celebrating coastal and sea life, which will be open to the public later this year.

During our visit, we spent time with Janice, who inspired us to think about the wonderful creatures that live beneath the waves. The children amazed us with their enthusiasm and knowledge, confidently naming a wide variety of sea animals and sharing facts and stories about them. It was wonderful to hear everyone listening carefully to one another, asking questions and building on each other's ideas.

After our sea-life discussions, Janice provided a fantastic selection of art materials for the children to explore. Using their imagination and creativity, everyone designed and created their very own unique fish to take home. Each creation was completely different, showcasing the children's individuality, creative thinking and growing confidence as young artists. We were so proud of their effort, perseverance and imaginative ideas!

To finish our morning, we enjoyed a beautiful sunny walk back to nursery, chatting about our favourite sea creatures before sitting down together for lunch. ☀️💛

Community Links 🎭

On Friday, we had the opportunity to visit the Adam Smith Theatre 🎭.

We began with a tour of the design room, where items for clothing were crafted, along with 3D-printed objects, a mural of Kirkcaldy, and clothing stickers. Recently, they had printed a small World cup trophy 🏆, which we all had the pleasure of holding. We even got to try a flute that remarkably sounded like a train!

Next, we explored the theatre itself! We guessed it had 700 seats, only to discover there were actually 410! We were then invited onto the stage to perform for our friends. We used our bodies to dance and move in various ways, while our lovely singing voices filled the air as the tech person enhanced our performance with lights.

After that, we moved to the party room 🎂, where a large screen allowed us to watch the show on stage in a more peaceful setting 🥰.

We were then granted access to a special practice room beneath the stage, where performers rehearse their dances and acts 🤸🏼💛.

This trip allowed us to engage with our local environment and discover what resources are available to us. We also had the opportunity to explore various jobs! ❤️

🌿🌊 A Wonderful Day of Woodland and Beach Adventures! 🌊🌿

Today was packed full of exploration, discovery and outdoor fun!

We started our adventure by packing up all our kit and hopping into the minibus, ready for an exciting day ahead. Once we arrived at Ravenscraig Woods, we found the perfect spot to set up our base camp. Together, we discussed our rules and boundaries to help everyone stay safe before heading off to explore the woodland.

The children worked brilliantly as a team to build a den for shelter and even created a hammock between the trees. The hammock was definitely a favourite activity, with lots of children enjoying relaxing in it while looking up at the sky through the leaves above. 🌳

We used binoculars and magnifying glasses to investigate the natural world around us and were delighted when we spotted a squirrel scurrying through the trees! 🐿️ The children showed great curiosity, asking questions and sharing their discoveries with one another.

After a busy morning, we enjoyed a delicious lunch kindly prepared by Ruth. Thank you, Ruth! 🍽️

Once lunch was finished, everyone helped to tidy up our base camp before we headed off to the beach for the next part of our adventure.

At the beach, we explored the rock pools and were excited to discover a crab and a snail hiding amongst the rocks. 🦀🐌 The children then used stones, shells and other natural treasures to create beautiful transient art before challenging themselves to skim stones across the sea. There were lots of smiles, laughter and determination as everyone practised their skimming skills!

What a fantastic day of outdoor learning, creativity and exploration. The children demonstrated teamwork, resilience, curiosity and respect for the natural environment throughout the day. We are so proud of all their achievements and can't wait for our next adventure! 🌿✨

Today the children had great fun exploring our tabletop football game, brought in by Amanda! ⚽🥅 The excitement was high as the children took turns controlling the players, worked together to keep the game flowing, and enthusiastically celebrated each goal scored. Their teamwork, laughter and encouragement created a wonderful atmosphere of shared achievement and enjoyment. 🥰

Throughout the experience, the children demonstrated excellent turn-taking, cooperation and problem-solving skills as they negotiated rules, supported one another, and adapted their strategies during play. It was fantastic to see them communicating effectively, showing respect for each other's ideas, and working collaboratively towards a common goal.

Our football-themed discussions sparked lots of interest in the World Cup, with many children eagerly sharing their knowledge and experiences. There were some confident declarations that "Scotland won!" 😆😊, leading to engaging conversations about different countries, international competitions, and the wider world around us.

As the children played, they developed a range of important skills, including fine motor control, hand-eye coordination, concentration, spatial awareness, and decision-making. The game encouraged them to think critically, predict outcomes, and respond quickly to changing situations while having fun with their friends.
