📚✨ World Book Day Fun! ✨📚

We had lots of fun today celebrating World Book Day, dressed as our favourite book characters! The nursery was full of imagination, colour and creativity as the children proudly showed off their wonderful costumes.

Throughout the day, the children took part in lots of exciting book-themed activities, including story time, role play, and creative crafts inspired by some of their favourite stories.

🥞 Pancake Day Fun! 🥞

On Tuesday we celebrated Pancake Day with a fun playdough activity. The children helped to make their own playdough using flour and created pretend pancakes. They loved mixing, rolling, and shaping their pancakes, and it was a great way to build fine motor skills and encourage imaginative play.

📚🐯 Story Time Fun with Our Babies! 🐯📚
Our babies have been reading The Tiger Who Came to Tea! They explored a sensory tray inspired by the story using fruit-flavoured teas.

We loved using our imagination to pretend we were having a tea party, and we even read the book alongside the activity. A lovely way to support early literacy, sensory play, and imaginative play!

🌿🐦 Home Learning Fun! 🐦🌿
Our toddler and pre-school staff have created a home learning activity for all children to explore! The children have taken home bird seed and ideas on how to make their own DIY bird feeders using recycled materials.

This activity supports children’s learning across all areas, encourages sustainability, helps them understand the world around them, and creates a lovely opportunity for quality family time at home. We can’t wait to see your bird feeders!

🎒Nursery Outings!
The children went on a trip to Tesco where we picked up some ingredients for baking cupcakes. They loved helping to find the items and popping them into the trolley.
This helps support children’s development by:

🧠Building real‑world understanding as children see how shops work and learn where food comes from.

💬Developing communication and language skills through talking about what they see, need, and choose.

🔢Strengthening maths skills as they look at quantities, numbers, and compare items.

🌟Encouraging independence and confidence by allowing them to make choices and take part in meaningful tasks.

🎄 Baking Gingerbread Men! 🎄
The children had so much fun baking and decorating their own gingerbread men — the smells, the smiles, and the sticky fingers made it such a joyful festive moment. This is important for their development as it builds fine motor skills as they mix, roll, cut, and decorate, encourages creativity through choosing colours or patterns and boosts language and communication as they talk about what they’re making.

We would also like to take this opportunity to wish all our families a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Thank you for your continued support — we hope you all enjoy a magical festive season.
From all of us at Ashbourne Alfreton ✨.

🎄 Christmas Stay & Play! 🎄
A huge thank you to everyone who joined us this morning for our festive Stay & Play session. The children had such a wonderful time getting stuck into Christmas activities, exploring, creating, and enjoying all the seasonal fun. This is important for children’s development as it supports their social and emotional growth as children play alongside others, share, take turns, and build confidence. It builds upon children's communication and language skills through conversations, new vocabulary, and expressive play.

There was plenty of laughter, play, and of course—lots of Christmas music to set the mood. ✨
We loved sharing this magical morning with you all!
