How is the break going? Hope you are all having fun together.
πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ Year 6 learnt the hand jive today as part of their 1950s focus! πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§
What a brilliant day! The children have enjoyed β€˜Dancing Through the Decades’ to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§
Once again we say thank you to everyone in our school community who works so tirelessly for our children and families. To our parents and carers, the many outside agencies that we work with, every single member of staff, our Governors and our wider friends and community, we say THANK YOU! It is the end of a busy half term that have included domestic and international residentials, many trips, visits and enrichment days, Year 2 and Year 6 SATS and the launch of our OPAL work to transform play opportunities for our children. Have a restful break and come back, recharged, for what will be a busy final half term of the school year, filled with love, learning and laughter!
The Northwood staff are enjoying our Jubilee celebrations! We are enjoying the street party lunch, learning about our chosen decade and dancing the day away! πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ πŸ‘Έ
Today is National Thank a Teacher day. We are so proud to have the teachers we have at Northwood. They are committed, hard-working and inspirational. Thank you, teachers!
Tomorrow a group of staff and children from our Designated Special Provision will take off on an adventure to Barnstondale! We will be taking part in a range of activities that will challenge us and it will be a fantastic experience for our fantastic young people. We will be sending regular photos and check ins so keep your eye on here, twitter and your child's Seesaw account! BARNSTONDALE 2022 is GO!

https://www.barnstondale.org
A group of Year 5 children and staff from Northwood and St Michael and All Angels flew off from Liverpool Airport today, destination MADRID! They arrived safely and Mr Sadler checked in with Ms Murphy around 5pm today to say they were about to go out to eat and visit a local park. Stay safe and soak up all the new experiences!
On Wednesday 18th May Northwood will be completing, 'A Mile in May.' Raising money to support Centre 63's Youth Club and all the valuable work that they do to support children in our community! Please sponsor your child.
πŸ—“ SAVE THE DATE πŸ—“

The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. πŸ‘Έ

Northwood will be celebrating the Queen's Jubilee in style on Friday 27th May.

To celebrate, we will be having a traditional British style lunch and we will be organising a 'Dancing Through the Decades' event to link Music and History for the Queen's Jubilee.

The aim is for each year group to focus on a decade from the past 70 years. Children can come to school dressed as people did in the decade that they are focusing on. We will be able to see children dressed from different decades during our special 'Street Party’ lunch.

Each year group will focus on specific singers/ musicians that were famous from that decade and have a time slot in the hall to dance to music from that decade. We are hoping that this will give children experiences of different genres of music that the Queen listened to during her reign in each decade.
Year 6 are enjoying their trip to Ten Pin to celebrate all of their hard work this year! 🎳
Congratulations to our Year 6 children on completing their SATS this week. They were outstanding in their behaviour, dedication and effort. We are truly grateful for parents, carers and staff who have supported them through this - they are clearly destined for great things!

Supporting children and families to overcome barriers, believe in themselves and achieve big things!

This graphic is so helpful for explaining why children might appear to "hear" you, but not be "listening" -- or, to put it in other words, why they might look at you when you speak, or might even be able to repeat back the sounds that you made, but might not have comprehended a direction that you gave them, or might not have even looked up from their play.

A child might detect that a new sound (like you calling their name) is happening in the room, but not discriminate that the sound is important or directed at them.

They might detect the sound, and discriminate it from other noises in the environment such that they recognize it as their name and try to tune in...but then not be able to identify the specific things that you're saying.

They might identify what you're saying, but not comprehend what the individual words mean, or be able to successfully turn it into a statement or question that they understand and process and can act on.

And an adult might watch this happen and then turn away and say, frustrated, "They heard me, they just chose not to listen!" or "They heard everything I said and then they broke the rule anyway!", not realizing that the child's hearing, processing, auditory systems are still learning and practicing and doing their best.

[Image description: A graphic from the Instagram handle Deafinitely Communicating (). It has a picture of a dark-skinned ear, with four different-colored "wave" shaped semicircles going into the ear. The text next to it reads, "I know you hear me! ...Yes, but there's levels to hearing. I may hear you, but not understand you." Below the ear and the text are numbers 1-4, colored the same as the different-colored "waves" going into the ear, indicating that these are 4 facets of the process of hearing/understanding:
1. Detection
2. Discrimination
3. Identification
4. Comprehension

End description.]

Well done to our Northwood actors who have spent weeks working on their performance on Midsummer Nights Dream and went to the Shakespeare Festival yesterday and the new theatre in Prescot to perform it. They were articulate, dramatic, made excellent use of props and stayed in their character roles brilliantly. We are so very proud of how hard they worked and of the school staff that worked so hard to support them. Well done to everyone involved and also to Yewtree Primary Academy and SMAA primary school who performed on the same night - you were all fabulous!
