Letter from the Kirkby Collaborative of Schools:

Kirkby Schools Open as Usual Tomorrow

Dear Parents/Carers
Following communications issued earlier today by Merseyside Police regarding malicious communications reported at a few schools across the region, we would like to reassure you that our schools will be open and operating as normal tomorrow.

Police have confirmed that the reports received are believed to be a hoax and that there is currently no intelligence to suggest a credible threat to schools. At no point have schools been advised to close, and police enquiries remain ongoing.

The Kirkby Collaborative of schools would like to assure you that the safety and wellbeing of our pupils and staff remains our highest priority. We continue to follow all established safeguarding and security procedures and remain in close contact with the relevant authorities. Based on the information and advice provided to schools, it is very much business as usual.

We are aware that messages relating to this matter may be circulating on WhatsApp and other social media platforms. While we understand that parents naturally want to share information to protect others, we kindly ask that unverified messages are not shared, as this can unintentionally cause unnecessary concern within our community.

If you have any concerns or receive information that worries you, please check for updates from official sources such as the police or contact your child’s school.

Thank you for your continued support and cooperation in helping us maintain a calm, safe and supportive environment for our children.

Dear Parents & Carers,

You may have picked up from the media or social media that a number of Merseyside schools have received malicious communications.

I just wanted to reassure you that Northwood Community Primary School has not received any such communication, but I also wanted to share with you the advice that has been provided by Merseyside Police.

Merseyside Police believes that the communication is a hoax and Chief Inspector Phil Thompson said: “We understand that parents and carers will be concerned and as a result we are liaising with all schools and providing advice and reassurance as enquiries continue.

“Based on the information we have received and assessed, there has been no requirement for those schools to close.”

The safeguarding of children and staff in school is our key priority and we will follow appropriate precautions in line with our school safeguarding procedures if required.

If you have any information, you can call 101 or DM on social media. You can also call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Regards

MS S Murphy
Headteacher

Dear Parents and Carers,

Next week is Children’s Mental Health Week. This year’s theme is This Is My Place, and we will be focusing on the idea of belonging.

As a whole school, we will be taking part in a special art activity. As part of this, we would like the children to create artwork that represents the people, places, and things that help them feel that they belong.

Please could your child bring in (or send to their class teacher via Seesaw) pictures that are special to them. This might include photos with family, friends, pets, or favourite places. Drawings are also very welcome if you prefer not to send photographs.

We are really looking forward to celebrating the many ways our children feel connected and valued within their communities.

Thank you for your continued support.

Dear Parents/Carers,

Since September, Reception and Year 6 have trialled a new reading record system and it has had a massive impact on the number of children that are reading at home. This is due to either parents/carers or the children being able to use technology rather than traditional reading records which, as you know, can become lost, damaged, or forgotten easily. The feedback from parents/carers in both year groups that have trialled the new system has been nothing but positive and we are keen to start using the new system as soon as possible.

With that in mind, we are rolling out the new system to all other classes in the school. It is vitally important that all children at Northwood are reading five times per week; as you can appreciate, reading is a life-long skill and if children are exposed to several different genres and they are reading different texts, their attainment in school will improve. If your child comes home with a login for boom reader over the next week or so, we would appreciate it if you could begin to use the new system.

If you have any questions or queries, please let us know and it will be forwarded to our mainstream reading lead in school who will be able to assist you.
