This half term our topic has been people who help us. The children have enjoyed learning about different occupations that people do. We have welcomed visitors into our class including a dental hygienist, nurse, paramedic and firefighters. The children have also observed the life cycle of a frog and butterfly with interest. We hope all children have an amazing 6 weeks off and see you all In September! Mrs Huck and Miss Tudor

Year 6 had a fantastic walk up Askham Fell today with beautiful views at the top overlooking Ullswater and Pooley Bridge. The children sat and had lunch at the top with lots of hydration breaks too! 🌞

Last week Year 5 were invited to travel on the train to Carlisle. Whilst in Carlisle, we were given a tour of the train station, including underneath the train station to look at all the old goods rooms. Our invitation was following on from working with local artist Karen Babayan to create some panels to be displayed in the train station to celebrate 150 years of the Settle to Carlisle line. The children all behaved really well and were a credit to Kirkby Stephen Primary School.

On Thursday, we were delighted to welcome international musician Liz Jones back to KSPS, where she was once a pupil.
Liz shared her inspiring journey in music, talking about her career, the places it has taken her, and the creative process behind her songwriting. She then treated the children to performances of several of her songs.
Thank you, Liz, for returning to inspire the next generation of musicians!

This afternoon the children enjoyed a fabulous singing celebration in the Methodist Chapel singing all of their favourite songs from singing assembly this year. What a fantastic afternoon!

Congratulations to our chess team (Kai, Rhys, Henry and Robert) who won the Ullswater Shield Eden Chess Competition. Henry won individual gold, with Kai getting silver and Rhys bronze. Well done to all four players, who event organisers praised for their excellent sportsmanship.

Before half term, our Year 3 and 5 children enjoyed an incredible Forest School experience, spending either the morning or afternoon learning outdoors in our woodland area.
Throughout the sessions, the children developed a range of practical skills, including fire lighting, safe tool use, cooking over a fire, and woodworking. Each child created their own special keepsake to take home and be proud of.
As a lasting legacy, the children also worked together to build benches which will remain in our woodland and be used for future outdoor learning opportunities.
We are so proud of the enthusiasm, teamwork, resilience, and creativity shown by all of Year 3 and 5 during this fantastic experience!

We had a lovely afternoon at Hunter Hall's Cross-Country on Monday. Some children from year one, two and three raced against lots of other schools in the area. The children all did fantastically well, and we are very proud of them all. The year two boys' team were first overall, and the year three boys' team were also first overall. Albie Bowman was second individually in his category. Well done to all the children for representing our school so well.

Our topic in nursery this half term is under the sea. We have enjoyed learning new vocabulary whilst listening to stories and information books relating to different sea creatures. We have explored colour and colour mixing to create our sea creatures in detail. Everyone has been planting seeds and we continue to care from them as they grow. We have been interested to learn about the life cycle of frog/duck whilst observing our tadpoles/ ducklings.
