The liquid detergent in washing pods and capsules is up to five times more concentrated than powder and can cause life-changing chemical burns to eyes, skin and throats.

Little ones may mistake brightly coloured laundry pods for sweets and bite into them. Or they may think they are a toy and squeeze them so hard they burst.

Some injuries are so severe that children need skin grafts or long-term tube feeding.

And if the alkaline chemicals get into the eyes it can burn and lead to long-term eyesight problems.

So, keep washing pods and capsules out of reach of children at all times.

There’s good news for families this October half-term as once again our leisure centres offer 10p swims for children.

Young people aged under 16 will be able to take advantage of the special offer at our swimming pools in and .

Barrow, Kendal, Penrith and Ulverston leisure centres will allocate 2 hours per day for 10p swims from Monday 28 October to Friday 1 November 2024. Appleby Leisure Centre will allocate 1 hour and Dalton Leisure Centre will allocate 3 hours.

Over the weekend of Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 November 2024, 10p swims will be available at Kendal, Penrith and Ulverston leisure centres for 2 hours per day; and at Appleby Leisure Centre for 1 hour per day.

Bookings for Appleby, Kendal, Penrith and Ulverston can be made on the Better UK app under Swim For All sessions or payment can be taken at reception.
