Our Scottish Studies trip visited Loch Leven Castle to explore this important site to Scotland. We did some creative writing about Mary Queen of Scots and produced a fieldwork sketch at the Loch. On our return to school, we worked together with the library to start our Scotland in Focus project using resources like books, ICT, artefacts and displays.

🚌 X56 service update

The Finance and Resources Committee has today agreed to extend the replacement X56 service introduced on Monday 24 August until 31 March 2027. The replacement service will continue to serve all communities and bus stops between Perth and Halbeath previously served by the X56.

The decision gives passengers and communities certainty in the months ahead while further work is carried out to understand demand and inform longer-term plans for public transport across Perth and Kinross through the Public Transport Transformation Review.

Councillor Eric Drysdale said: "The withdrawal of the X56 was a commercial decision, but what is commercially viable for a bus company is not the same as what is important for our communities. This route helps people access work, education, healthcare appointments and other essential services, and today's decision provides certainty while longer-term solutions are considered."

Decisions on funding for the service beyond March 2027 will be considered by councillors as part of the Council's budget-setting process early next year.

A very productive first planning session with KHS’s new Interact Committee. The group discussed some fantastic ideas for the year ahead and were presented with their Interact badges. Thank you to our Kinross Rotary representatives, Shona and George, who led a motivating and interactive session.

Update from PKC on the X56 bus route.

Good news for communities along the X56 route - an interim replacement bus service will operate from Monday 24 August, helping to ensure passengers can continue to travel while councillors consider longer-term arrangements at next week’s Finance and Resources Committee meeting.

The replacement service will operate on the existing route on a two-hourly timetable.

Councillor Eric Drysdale, Leader of Perth and Kinross Council, said: “We know how important the X56 is for many residents and communities, and we have heard clearly the concerns raised since Stagecoach announced their decision to withdraw it.

“A longer-term solution will be considered by the Finance and Resources Committee next week. However, ahead of that decision arrangements are being put in place to ensure a replacement bus service is available from Monday so that passengers can continue to travel on the route.

“I am delighted that we have been able to find a potential solution which provides reassurance and continuity for communities.”
Councillor Richard Watters, Convener of the Council’s Climate Change and Sustainability Committee, said: “Buses play a vital role in connect people to work, education, healthcare and other essential services, while also supporting more sustainable travel choices.

“I am very pleased that we have been able to find a way to help fill the gap residents would otherwise have been facing on Monday.”

There are a range of roles, such as Chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer but parents and carers can also join as ordinary members and can vote on matters arising, support fundraising, contribute to improvements and generally support KHS in many ways.

Well done to former KHS pupil Ella Doherty who made her Commonwealth Games debut with Team Scotland’s women’s 3x3 basketball squad at Glasgow 2026. Ella has also recently travelled to the Czech Republic and Slovakia where she represented Great Britain in a Euro 3x3 tournament. We wish Ella every success in her continuing career.

It was lovely to have School Captains Bea and Freya present to staff during our in-service day about the Rights Respecting School Campus Charter. Their presentation focused on Article 12 of the UNCRC: Respect for Children's Views, highlighting the importance of ensuring every young person's voice is heard and valued.
