Permanently closed.

We will continue to do holiday horse b and b, livery grazing and breeding of Highland Ponies. We are now in KINGUSSIE - For the ideal Riding Holiday the Cairngorm National
Park scenery and wildlife will astound most visitors. We have direct access to wild country only 100m
from the centre with Wild Goats & Red & Roe Deer
right on our doorstep. We have rides that are
suitable from absolute beginner

s to those wishing
to do Trail Rides in true Rough Highland Country. Our holidays will appeal to those who want to
spend more time around horses & ponies & gain
experience from helping out at a busy riding centre. We are fully approved & have excellent staff ready
to make you welcome, so you feel part of the team
from the minute you arrive. ABRS Tests can be taken by clients at the centre too. Children are welcome from any age for Pony Rides. Children over 12 can ride out with us & younger
children can go out on lead rein. Lessons in the
riding school are suitable for all ages.

15 years ago Tractor Ski Jorring and Sledging at Newtonmore Riding Centre - I miss not being able to get out and play in the snow this winter when current snow conditions are perfect 🙂

Please note we are now permanently closed from the end of October 2025 after 74 years of operating in the pony trekking business.
Ruaridh Ormiston has stepped back to start retirement and sadly the girls did not wish to continue on their own.
We will still take horses for holiday livery / horse b and b and we will still be breeding a few Highland Ponies but the pony trekking and lessons etc are now finished.
All the working ponies are away on winter loan till at least Easter and once they start to arrive back we will put them up for sale.
Sadly the end of an era and can I thank everybody who has helped out and been involved over all these years with the Ormiston Highlands. We all have some very happy memories :-)
Many thanks
Ruaridh Ormiston

Announcement November 2025 - Please be advised we are no longer going to be providing any toilet facilities for campers - so we are only taking motorhomes with their own toilet facilities now. This is mainly because of the high cost of servicing the blue chemical toilets so they are now locked up.
We will continue to provide motorhome service point facilities - Fresh Water and Black and Grey waste disposal.
So in future please only book in and stay if you have your own function toilet.
We will also be withdrawing our rubbish bin and recycling bin service. This too is related to cost but also because nobody seems to be able to segregate the waste in to the right bins.
We hope by implementing the above measures we can maintain our low prices of £10 a night for a Basic Aire on hardstanding pitch and the roomier £15 for a CL hardstanding pitch with grass dividers. The Motorhome Service will continue at £5. You do not need to stay to use this service.

Looking for winter loan home

Nola of Croila Croft
6 year old highland mare
Nola has been out to a few shows this year including the Royal Highland Show.
She will hack alone or in company.
Nola is a sensitive young mare and for that reason is looking for an experienced loaner to have fun with her over winter.

Please PM or message Becca at Ruthven Equestrian.

**SOLD**

Dathias of Croila (Dawn)
16 year old , approx 15hh highland mare.

Dawn has been a crucial part of the team here at the trekking centre. She has helped everyone from beginners to advanced, done RDA, carriage driving, saddle club and showing. Dawn is good in all traffic, crosses the railway line, goes under the a9 and does river crossings. Also good for the farrier and to catch.

She has done a great job here for us but now we would love for her to find a quieter life to be pampered. Due to us being a trekking centre she mainly hacks in company but she will hack alone with a more experienced person. Dawn will work in the arena and pop a small jump.

She has had a two stage vetting that found a cyst in one eye which does not seem to be affecting her and small melanomas under her tail. Her price reflects this.
