The Reading Doctor, Wolverhampton & Dudley

The Reading Doctor, Wolverhampton & Dudley Award-winning reading and English tuition, delivered by a qualified teacher. Welcome to the Reading Doctor, Wolverhampton and Dudley.

We enable children, including neurodivergent learners, to overcome barriers through personalised one-to-one support and bespoke resources, unlocking their potential. I am delighted to be able to bring this reading tuition program to your area. When I first started to research the Reading Doctor, I couldn’t contain my excitement and instantly knew I wanted to be part of this incredible team. As a c

hild, my ambition was always to become a teacher and my journey began back in 2000 when I qualified with a First-Class Honours Degree in Early Childhood Studies and then went on to complete a PGCE with a specialism in Early Years. Throughout my teaching career, I have taken on many roles including senior leadership, phonics subject lead and Key Stage 1 moderation for the local authority but throughout all these varied roles I have always been keen to remain a teacher in the classroom continuing to provide quality first teaching. My teaching experience has predominantly been in KS1 and through this, I have developed an exceptional knowledge of phonics and early reading. I have further utilised and refined these skills in KS2 when working with children who found reading a particular challenge. This inspired me to research, read and find out more about Dyslexia and how the barriers to reading can be overcome. There is nothing more rewarding than to know that a pupil you have taught, now has the reading tools for life and has the confidence to achieve their full potential. From a very early age, I have loved reading and couldn’t wait to curl up at night with a good book! As a small child, the thought that I could be transported to magical worlds and faraway places was the highlight of my day. It is this love and passion for reading that I aim to inspire in all pupils that I teach. As an experienced teacher, I understand that all children learn in different ways and through dedicated 1:1 tuition. This allows me to tailor the learning specifically for each individual child. I understand how the challenges of reading can become a real frustration and sense of ‘failure’ for some children but with some kind words, a nurturing environment and a little self-belief, alongside an amazing multi-sensory, bespoke tuition reading package, it will hopefully unlock your child’s reading potential. Please do not hesitate to get in touch to discuss an initial assessment and I look forward to discussing your child’s individual needs to hopefully start them on their exciting reading journey…

Sequencing is the ability to put ideas into the right chronological order. This skill is important for telling stories, recounting events, organisational skills, giving and responding to instructions and understanding consequences.
We had lots of fun in this lesson when reading the stroy 'The Den'. We talked about and sequenced the items that Kim used to build it. We also built a den for Pikachu which provided the opportunity to embed and parctise the vocabulary too.

When I was away on holiday a few weeks ago I realised how much text was displayed everywhere! There were signs and maps and information notices as well as instructions. Here's a wonderful example of reading for meaning. No matter where you are in the world, take some time to share those pieces of information with your child and talk about what you have found out. Don't forget to have some fun along the way!

One of the things I look forward to most is meeting up with my friends to discuss our lastest book choice in our book club.

Now that I'm back from my holiday I'm loving the summer lessons and all the joy that it brings. Here's a little insight to my time away. Even a Reading Doctor needs a hug from Mickey Mouse...what more could you ask for?

We had so much fun in this Summer lesson creating this craft linked to our next Star Wars book. This book is hot off the press and has been on order for quite some time. I'm not sure who was more excited, me or my student! 🤣 As we made the craft we discussed the imperative verbs also known as 'doing' words. Next session we will be writing the instructions.
