🛠️ Business Setup in Gornal! 🌐

Great to be out supporting another local business getting ready to launch! Today I was over in Gornal at the brand-new site for Kingswinford Tyres, after Andy Page reached out to get their tech up and running.

Here is what we got sorted today:

Internet Installation: Got the high-speed fiber internet and TP-Link system fully up, running, and configured.

PC Setup: Unboxed and configured a brand-new HP mini PC and Dell monitor system for the main desk, completely updated and ready for opening day.

I will be heading back shortly to get their telephone systems completely configured and sorted out next! 📞

A massive thank you to Andy for trusting The Patient Tech to handle the IT groundwork. Best of luck with the upcoming launch of the new premises—it looks fantastic! 🚗💨

💻 THE TWIST IN THE WORKSHOP: When a "Dead" Laptop Costs £0 to Fix! 🤯❌

We love a good plot twist. A Dell Latitude came to us completely lifeless. Standard resets had failed, and it was pointing heavily toward a dead motherboard or a completely fried internal battery.

Instead of writing it off, we got to work with a systematic, patient diagnostic process:

1️⃣ The Deep Hardware Reset: We stripped the laptop down and completely disconnected both the main internal battery and the CMOS coin battery. This forced the motherboard to perform a complete "digital detox," clearing out a frozen hardware power state.

2️⃣ The Diagnostics: When we powered it back up on the mains, it sprang to life! We ran Dell's official ePSA hardware diagnostics, testing the processor, thermals, and memory. Result? All hardware passed perfectly! ✅

3️⃣ The Big Surprise: After resetting the system settings and repairing the temporary Windows boot loop, we reconnected the original battery to test it under load.

The result? It’s booting perfectly, holding a charge, and running absolutely fine! 🔋🎉 It wasn't a dead battery or a broken board after all—just a major logic glitch that required a deep hardware reset to clear.

The customer walks away with a perfectly working laptop and a £0 parts bill. That’s why we do what we do!

Before you assume your dead device is ready for the bin, let us take a proper, patient look at it first. 🛠️

🚨 WINDOWS 11 USERS: HOLD OFF ON THE LATEST UPDATE? 🚨

Have you installed the June 2026 Windows 11 update (KB5094126) yet?

Some users and IT admins are reporting serious issues after installing the update, including:

❌ Blue Screens of Death (BSODs)
❌ PCs failing to boot
❌ BitLocker recovery screens appearing unexpectedly
❌ OneDrive sync and File Explorer issues
❌ Problems affecting some HP and Dell business laptops
❌ Start Menu and Search failures on certain systems

The update is important because it patches around 200 security vulnerabilities, but it appears some devices are experiencing compatibility issues, particularly involving Secure Boot, BIOS firmware, and EFI partitions.

Before You Update:

✅ Make sure your important files are backed up
✅ Verify your BitLocker recovery key is saved somewhere safe
✅ Check for BIOS/firmware updates from your PC manufacturer
✅ Consider waiting a few days if your PC is mission-critical

💻 Fix of the Week: When PowerPoint Gives You the Cold Shoulder 🥶

Ever been right in the middle of an important presentation, only for your screen to freeze up or your images to completely vanish?

That’s exactly what happened to a local client this week during his first big presentation. Out of nowhere, PowerPoint started freezing and warning him that he was about to "lose features" and needed to reactivate. Talk about stressful!

🔍 What was the culprit?

It turns out it wasn't a broken computer or a virus. It was a classic case of Microsoft Office dropping into "Reduced Functionality Mode." When Office gets confused about its licence or loses its login token, it panics and locks down editing features. This causes the software to lag, images to drop out, and the whole program to freeze up.

🔧 The Patient Tech Fix:

You don't need a brand-new laptop to fix this! When I remote in to clear this up, here is the game plan:

1. Re-verify the Licence: Heading into File > Account to get Microsoft properly signed back in and authenticated.

2. Smooth out the Graphics: Disabling "hardware graphics acceleration" in the advanced settings. This instantly stops PowerPoint from choking on heavy graphics or videos on standard laptops.

3. Save Fresh: Making sure the file isn't running from a sluggish USB stick or email preview, and saving it as a modern, stable .pptx file directly on the desktop.
Technology is brilliant until it decides to throw a wobbler right when you need it most.

📞 Is your Office software acting up, freezing, or demanding you log back in? Don't pull your hair out—drop The Patient Tech a message, and we can remote in and get it running smoothly again while you have a cuppa!
