My role as a coach is to help you clarify what you want and need to live a more fulfilling life, set clear goals and guide you through each stage to ensure you achieve them. I use a variety of techniques incl

I've helped many clients with a variety of different issues and goals including weight loss, lack of work life balance, low confidence, anxiety and career progression. Self-care has become a real buzz word over the last few years but what does it actually mean?

For most people the phrase ‘self-care’ brings to mind images of bubbles baths, yoga and pedicures. And whilst for some people that might be exactly what they need to feel good, for others it just feels like another thing they ‘should’ be doing.

Self-care actually means:

✔️ Asking for help

✔️ Saying ‘no’ when you need to

✔️ Setting boundaries and holding them

✔️ Treating yourself with Self-compassion and speaking to yourself like you would a friend (even when you mess up!)

✔️ Putting yourself first (no it’s not selfish)

✔️ Acknowledging what you need, saying it, and acting on it

This week it’s Self-care week so what better time to start taking care of yourself! What one thing will you start with?

It’s the final day of the Gratitude list challenge! So how have you found it? Was it easier as the week went on? Did you feel a positive change in your mood?

Why not see if you can carry on until the end of the month? And then maybe the end of the year. Giving yourself a small, achievable target means it more likely to stick as a habit. So if once a day is too much. You could try once a week to start off.

You could also try buddying up with someone or a group of friends or colleagues to do your own Gratitude List Challenge. You could:

Set up a WhatsApp group with some friends to share what you’re grateful for each day/week.

Put up a board in your home or office (or classroom if you’re a teacher).

If you work from home, why not use it as a conversation starter on your weekly Teams /Zoom meeting. If it feels too much to say it out loud, everyone could write what they’re grateful for this week in the chat.

Start a family gratitude jar. Each week everyone writes down something they’re grateful for and puts it in the jar. You can tip it out a year later or even at the end of the month for a lovely reminder of all the positive things that have happened.

So, what are the 3 things you’re grateful for today? Post them below 👇 And don’t forget how to let me know how you got on this week!

My 3 things today are:

1. A cup of tea in bed ☕️
2. Noticing the rain getting it at the bottom of the door before it go too bad 🌧️
3. Having waterproof tape to hand to seal up the gap 🙏🏻

‘If you concentrate on what you have, you will always end up having more. If you focus on what you don’t have, you will never, ever have enough.’ -Oprah

Oprah has been keeping a gratitude journal since the mid-nineties and says it’s had a profoundly positive impact on her life and happiness. I’ve not been doing as long as Oprah, but I can definitely say it’s had a hugely positive effect in every single area of my life.

The 3 things I’m grateful for today are:

1. Choosing candles in Aldi with my daughter (random I know but it was lovely 🥰)

2. My favourite hair products being half price 😃

3. Having time to talk to my Mum without being interrupted 🙏🏻

There isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to practicing gratitude. You can do in whichever way works best for you.

You could:

1. Keep a gratitude journal
2. Use an app. There are loads of free ones out there.
3. Use the notes feature on your phone
4. Use voice notes on your phone
5. Turn it into a family ritual and ask everyone what they’re grateful for today at the dinner table
6. Start a gratitude jar. Every time you think of something you’re grateful for, write it on a piece of paper, fold it up and put it in the jar. Then a year later tip it out and read them all back 😊
7. Use a communal board in your office or home where everyone can write down the things they’re grateful for each day, week or month

To really see the benefits, it’s best to do it regularly, but if once a day doesn’t feel achievable, why not start with once a week?

The 3 things I’m grateful for today are:

1. A friend giving me a recommendation that led me to an incredible experience today
2. Online shopping - for saving me so much time and energy each week!
3. Having a fridge full of nutritious food

What if I told you I know a simple trick to improve your mental and physical health, life satisfaction and general happiness? And this simple trick is open to everyone, doesn’t cost anything, and only takes 5 minutes a day? You’d want to know more right?

Well that simple trick is actually gratitude!

Scientific studies show that people who regularly practice gratitude tend to:

✔️ Have stronger immune systems
✔️ Are less bothered by aches and pains
✔️ Have lower blood pressure
✔️ Exercise more and take better care of their health
✔️ Sleep longer and feel more refreshed upon waking
✔️ Have higher levels of positive emotions
✔️ Feel more alert, alive, and awake
✔️ Experience more joy and pleasure
✔️ Feel happier and more optimistic
✔️ Be more helpful, generous, and compassionate to others
✔️ Be more forgiving
✔️ Be more outgoing
✔️ Feel less lonely and isolated
✔️ Have stronger relationships

That is a HUGE list of upsides with absolutely no downsides! So what are you waiting for? Give it a go and see how it feels.

Day 3: What are the 3 things you’re grateful for today? Post them below 👇

Practicing gratitude regularly can quickly become a habit, and one that will make a surprisingly positive impact on your happiness.

But remember, it’s not another stick to beat yourself up with! It’s not about thinking ‘I should be more grateful’ when you’re struggling. You’re allowed to feel fed up, irritated and sorry for yourself sometimes. And yes, there is probably always someone worse off, but it’s important to allow yourself to feel the whole spectrum of emotions without judgement. It’s part of what makes us human. Practicing gratitude is about finding the little positives, not ignoring the bad stuff and pretending everything is fine when it’s not.

The 3 things I’m grateful for today are:

1. Another Mum reminding me it was clarinet day, and having the time to go back and get it! 🙏🏻

2. Seeing a shower of ‘helicopter’ seeds spinning in the wind - truly magical ✨

3. An amazing session with my coaching client this morning 😃

Day 2! What 3 things are you grateful for today?

Join this weeks Gratitude List Challenge! All you have to do is find 3 things you’re grateful for each day. They don’t have to be big. In fact the smaller the better. It’s the little positives we tend to miss In the busyness of life. Think ’getting your washing in before it starts to rain’ or ‘finding a £5 note in your winter coat’.

My 3 things I’m grateful for today are:

1. My lovely friend for sending me messages and voice notes that gave exactly the help and reassurance I needed 🥰

2. The chilled playlist I found on Calm that got my morning back on track 🎵

3. My 6 year old being discharged from the eye clinic with no issues! 🙌🏼

‘Gratitude list’ is a phrase we use multiple times a day in our house. Not because we have a perfect life (far from it), but because it’s become a habit and one that has a hugely positive impact on our family.

It’s been proven that a regular gratitude practice can improve well-being and mental health. We can’t stop the bad stuff or ignore how it makes us feel. But as humans, we have an unconscious bias to focus on the negative. The good stuff is out there too. We just might not notice it as much.

So join me next week for the gratitude list challenge. All you need to do is post 3 things you’re grateful for each day. They don’t have to be big. It can be someone letting you out in traffic, there being one biscuit left in the tin, or the fact that the sun came out for an hour.

I promise you even on the worst days you will be able to find something (even on the days where the bin bag breaks, the dog is sick on your newly cleaned sofa and you forget the kids lunchboxes - one of my recent days🤣).

Don’t forget to tag into your gratitude list posts each day, and use . I’d love to hear how you get on! Enjoy 😊
