Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Whole School Open Morning on Saturday!

It was fantastic to welcome so many families and share the vibrant and friendly environment that makes Hymers so special. From the moment our student guides greeted visitors, the school was buzzing with energy, enthusiasm and pride.

A huge thank you to our wonderful pupils and staff, who brought the school to life throughout the morning, and to all our visitors for joining us. We hope you left with a real sense of the warmth, ambition and community that lie at the heart of everything we do.

Students recently took part in auditions for our next Senior Drama production, The Bacchae, the classic Greek tragedy, which will be performed this February.

As well as performing a monologue, each student was asked to explain why they wanted to be involved in the production, the skills they would bring to the cast, which role particularly interested them and why, and how they would approach learning their lines and preparing for the role.

The audition panel included Head of Drama, Miss Witts, alongside Mrs Dickinson, Head of Classics, whose expertise was particularly fitting for this year's Greek tragedy. They were joined by Drama teacher Miss Roberts and external adjudicator Andy Feetom, a professional actor and director based in Hessle. Andy brings a wealth of industry experience and has previously taught a number of well-known performers, including Rob Aramayo, Lucy Beaumont and Martha Godber.

A huge thank you to all the students who auditioned. Miss Witts and her fellow adjudicators were incredibly impressed by the enthusiasm, commitment and talent on display, and they look forward to announcing the cast soon.

Inspiring creativity at The Whitworth

Year 12 and 13 Art students recently visited the The Whitworth in Manchester, where they explored a range of exciting exhibitions to support and inspire their own creative practice.

Students enjoyed viewing the gallery's diverse displays, including iconic Japanese woodblock prints by Hokusai, a multidisciplinary installation combining painting, ceramics and sound by Michaela Yearwood-Dan, and an engaging textiles exhibition exploring the stories, memories and connections woven into everyday fabrics.

The visit provided an excellent opportunity to engage with a wide range of artistic styles, techniques and ideas, helping students develop their observational skills and gather inspiration for their own coursework.

A fantastic day of artistic exploration and discovery!

We were delighted to welcome Rebecca Davison from Hull & East Riding Breast Friends to a recent assembly, where donations raised through our fundraising efforts during the last academic year were presented to our Charities of the Year for 2025/26.

As members of Butterflies Memory Loss Support Group were enjoying their annual holiday, Mrs Mason accepted the cheque on their behalf.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our school community, both charities received an amazing £2,135.96 each.

A huge thank you to all pupils, staff and families who supported our fundraising activities throughout the year. Your kindness and commitment will make a real difference to the valuable work these charities do within our local community.

We will be announcing our Charities of the Year for 2026/27 soon, so keep an eye out to see which causes we will be supporting this year.

Raising Awareness. Building Resilience.

Our Sixth Form students recently attended a powerful and thought-provoking session with Patrick Foster, founder of GAM-Ed, an organisation dedicated to educating young people and adults about addiction and promoting positive mental health.

Drawing on his own experiences of living with a gambling addiction, Patrick delivered an honest and impactful talk, encouraging students to make informed decisions, recognise the risks associated with addictive behaviours, and understand the importance of maintaining good mental wellbeing. We are grateful to Patrick for sharing his story so openly and helping our students develop a greater understanding of these important issues.

The session formed part of our Hymers Futures programme, a key feature of the Sixth Form experience at Hymers. Designed to complement classroom learning, Hymers Futures broadens students' knowledge, develops essential life skills, and prepares them for the opportunities and challenges they may encounter in higher education, the workplace and beyond.
