Incredibly proud of the diverse, cross-disciplinary research presented by the Centre of Excellence for Data Science, AI and Modelling (DAIM) at the University of Hull during the Fourth UK AI Conference in Nottingham.
Led by Dr. Julius Sechang Mboli PhD, SFHEA FHEA, COREN, MNSE, MBA, MSc and Eva Maria Sousa , our researchers showcased how AI, machine learning, and deep learning are tackling complex real-world challenges across medical sciences, environmental sustainability, socio-economics, and AI ethics.
Key research presented this week includes:
Healthcare & Medical Analytics:
Multiclass Classification of Pharmacologically Treated Platelets Using Convolutional Neural Networks: Distinguishing Zinc, Milrinone, and Combination Treatment Effects.
Automated Binary Classification of Chemically Treated Platelets Using Deep Learning: A Transfer Learning Approach (featuring collaboration with the Hull York Medical School).
Automated Morphological Analysis of Platelets in Microscopy Images Using K-Means Clustering Under Varying Experimental and Environmental Conditions.
Public Health & Society:
Machine Learning Analysis of Economic Vulnerability and Employment Outcomes Among Adults Living with HIV in South Africa.
Exploring Perinatal Mental Health Experiences Among UK Migrant Women Using Natural Language Processing.
Sustainability & Environment:
Towards Explainable and Generalizable Waste Classification: A Two-Stage CNN Approach on Hybrid Data.
Time Series Analysis of Salmonid Harvest in Lake Lugano Using Machine Learning.
AI Ethics & Consumer Behaviour:
Separating the Art from the Algorithm: Detecting Moral Decoupling in Consumer Discourse About Generative AI.
A huge congratulations to all the authors and presenters for driving such impactful innovation forward and representing DAIM on the national stage!
