We are delighted to share that Dr Sowter has generously chosen to donate to the Bursary Fund ahead of our Hymers Giving Day in lieu of running the East Yorkshire Half Marathon this Sunday. Dr Sowter is an experienced runner with several half marathons already under his belt, and between teaching Biology and Chemistry to our students, he has been busy fitting in his training runs. Good luck, Dr Sowter.

Thank you for your support.👏

We hope that you will consider how you can change someone’s life as we aim to raise funds for bursary places at Hymers College. Next week, from 8am on Thursday 25 June to 8pm on Friday 26 June 2026, you will have an opportunity to get involved in something truly remarkable.

Education creates the conditions for future success and personal fulfilment - a sentiment as important today as it was back in 1893 when John Hymers founded our School 'for every social rank of life'. Today our fundraising campaign exists to continue to provide an outstanding Hymers education for all, regardless of financial means.

For our Giving Day to be a success it is vital that our message is spread far and wide. From now until Friday 26th June please help us engage with members of our alumni community and let them know the ways they can get involved. Follow us on social media to receive live updates from our 2026 Giving Day.

We were delighted to welcome Tanmay Hingorani (2008–2015) back to school recently. Tan spoke to our Year 10 Business Studies students about his career path since his days as a member of Young Enterprise at Hymers, and his journey to appearing on this year’s BBC Apprentice series.

He answered questions about his time in the boardroom, his experience on the show, and his perspectives on business today. Tan also had the chance to catch up with many of his former teachers, who were thrilled to see him return.

Thank you for your time, Tan. It was a pleasure to welcome you back to school.

Count down has begun to the Hymers Giving Day that kicks off on Thursday 25 June at 8am. We have been overwhelmed with the support of early donations to support bursary places at the school. Thank you. With just two weeks to go if you haven't already, we are asking you to support the John Hymers Bursary Fund and help a deserving young person begin a transformational journey through a Hymers education. Like Alice below:

I’ve been fortunate enough to benefit from the support of a bursary place for my whole school life , and I’ll have these memories to cherish and fondly look back on when I go off to study Natural Sciences at my dream university, Cambridge -where I have had an offer to study .However, there are still numerous others, full of potential, who would benefit immensely from an education at Hymers, but simply can’t because of the fees.

A huge congratulations to Dr Emily Murden (Class of 2020), who graduates in July from Manchester University with MBChB Medicine (Hons)
👏
Emily will soon begin her first resident doctor role in Newcastle, and we were delighted to welcome her back to school yesterday before she starts this exciting new chapter. During her visit, Emily delivered the first part of a PBL (Problem Based Learning) workshop to 17 of our Sixth Form students who are aspiring to careers in medicine. She has set them a group task to complete ahead of her second session. This style of learning is invaluable for students preparing for medical school interviews, UCAS applications, and choosing the right university.
Our students had plenty of questions for Emily ranging from A Level choices and work experience to university life and top tips for achieving a strong UCAT score. Thank you, Emily. It was a pleasure to have you back and your support is invaluable.

The students always appreciate hearing from someone who sat in the very same labs not so long ago. We wish you every success in your medical career - we know you’ll be amazing
