It's National Art Week. We've brought our children to Ferens Art Gallery, where The Moomins have come to visit.
Bright Beginnings Day Nursery Hull Bright Beginnings Day Nursery, is a small family run nursery close to the city centre.
We provide activities to promote learning and development, along with many visits within our local community, as we are the profile nursery for the museums and art gallery. We also visit the library, local park and a nearby farm. We are the only nursery in hull to be able to offer on-site swimming lessons and tennis lessons with qualified instructors.

Shake, rattle… and learn 🎶
Our toddlers have been busy creating their very own musical rattles using pasta and recycled plastic bottles - and they were completely absorbed in the process.
Carefully picking up and slotting the pasta into the bottles helped strengthen fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and concentration as the children explored through hands-on play.
And once the rattles were ready? The room quickly filled with music, movement, dancing, and lots of proud little smiles.
By shaking, moving, and dancing with their instruments, the children were also developing gross motor skills, rhythm, balance, and confidence - all while expressing themselves freely through music and movement.
From curious hands to confident creators… this is how learning grows.

New Toy Tuesday!
From building…to problem-solving…to full-on races down the ramp!
Our new wooden ramp toy has quickly become a favourite in the room - and it’s easy to see why. The children worked together to create ramps of different heights and lengths, testing how fast their cars and balls would travel down each one.
Before long, their ideas turned into roads, tunnels, and even a whole city built through teamwork and imagination.
This kind of play is doing so much more than keeping little hands busy. The children were exploring early maths, prediction, communication, and critical thinking - all while negotiating roles, sharing ideas, and cheering each other on.

Messages like this never lose their meaning 💛
Hearing words like these from a returning family means more than we can say - especially when we’ve already had the privilege of watching their older child grow, flourish, and move on to school with confidence.
Now, to be trusted once again with their newest little one feels incredibly special.
Because for us, it’s never just about childcare. It’s about relationships, trust and creating a place where children feel safe, loved, and truly known.
From first settles to school leavers… thank you for choosing us to be a part of your family’s story.

Bright colours, sticky fingers, and big smiles 🌈
Biscuit decorating was a full explosion of colour, creativity, and concentration - with children carefully swirling icing, sprinkling toppings, and proudly showing off their delicious masterpieces.
Activities like this are about so much more than biscuits. They help children build fine motor skills, make independent choices, explore creativity, and develop confidence as they bring their ideas to life.
And honestly? Watching their faces light up with pride was the sweetest part of all.

Little hands exploring big ideas 🌧️
Our toddlers had so much fun learning about rain and grey rain clouds - but with a playful twist! Instead of paintbrushes, the children used balloons dipped in grey paint to create their very own rain cloud pictures.
As the printed, pressed, and explored the different textures and patterns, the children were developing fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, creativity, and early understanding of weather and the world around them.
Play-based learning like this encourages children to explore with confidence, curiosity, and imagination - all while having lots of messy fun along the way.

Big imaginations and even bigger giggles outside!
Our preschool children loved using chalk to draw around each others bodies during outdoor play. From carefully tracing their friends to adding faces, clothes, and colourful details, the children were fully absorbed in the activity.
This playful experience supported so many areas of development - including body awareness, turn-taking, communication, early mark-making, and fine motor control. It also encouraged teamwork, problem-solving, and lots of laughter along the way.
Learning through play, fresh air, and creativity - just as childhood should be.
A cosy little corner to rest, read, and recharge
Our toddlers have been enjoying our beautiful new den area, created using a wooden arch to make a calm and comforting space for stories, quiet moments, and rest time.
Whether snuggling up with a favourite book or settling down for a peaceful sleep, this cosy environment helps children feel safe, secure, and relaxed throughout their day.
Because sometimes the most meaningful learning happens in the quietest moments.

Colour, creativity, and curious minds at work 🦋
Our preschool children have been exploring butterfly printing this week using sponges and paint to create their beautiful patterns and wings.
As the dipped, and printed, the children also experimented with colour mixing - discovering how new colours can appear right before their eyes.
Activities like this support creativity, fine motor development, and early scientific thinking, all while giving the children the freedom to explore and express themselves through play.
From curious little experiments to proud artistic creations.

But he was still hungry 🐛
Our children had so much fun bringing a much-loved story to life this week as they helped feed our very hungry caterpillar!
Using giant cardboard caterpillars created by our team, the children took turns “feeding” him vegetables through his hungry mouth while talking about colours, shapes, foods, and healthy choices along the way.
This kind of play-based learning helps children build confidence, communication skills, turn-taking, and imagination - all through the magic of storytelling and hands-on play.
From listening to the story…to becoming part of it!
