Confucius Institute at University of Hull We offer and promote Chinese language and cultural programmes The Confucius Institute at University of Hull (CIUH) was established in early 2016.

Funded by the Ministry of Education of China, CIUH is a non-profit public institution whose stated aim is to promote Chinese language and culture. CIUH also supports local Chinese teaching, facilitates cultural exchanges, as well as promotes research cooperation between the University of Hull and its Chinese partner, Tianjin Normal University (TNU).

🎉Welcome to our new term!🎉

🌕🥮😋With the Mid-Autumn Festival just around the corner, our CIUH Welcome & Recruitment event has wrapped up after four days of meeting students and local visitors from 21–24 September.

At the event, we had lots of fun with Chinese trivia quizzes, oracle bone script character guessing, the “Chinese Speaking Challenge”, spin-the-wheel games, traditional Chinese calligraphy and mooncake tasting.🥮 Visitors also had the chance to try writing Chinese characters, discover more about Chinese culture and find out about our Chinese language courses for all levels.

Whether you’re an absolute beginner or looking to improve your Chinese, our courses are open to everyone! Come and start your Chinese learning journey with us. 👍👏🎉🥳

The training and teaching practice for new volunteer teachers have wrapped up successfully !🥳🥳🥳

From 14 to 16, September, our new teachers 👩‍🏫👨‍🏫delivered thoughtful, engaging lessons, demonstrating solid preparation and enthusiasm for Chinese language teaching.👍👍👍

We’re delighted to share that registration for CI Chinese courses is now open! 🥳
📅 Term dates: 28 September–4 December 2026
⏰ Duration: 10 weeks

If you are interested in taking a Cl course, please follow the links below to register;
We offer Chinese language courses from beginner to advanced level, aligned with the HSK Chinese proficiency testing system. Both on-campus and online classes are available.

📖Chinese language courses:
• HSK 1 & 2: Beginner Chinese – £60
• HSK 3 & 4:Intermediate Chinese – £60
• HSK 6 :Advanced Chinese – £60

✈️🎨💃We are also pleased to offer three Chinese culture courses:
• Discover China: Travel, Language and Culture
• Chinese Calligraphy and Painting
• Chinese Dance

Each culture course costs £60 per term, or just £40 for students enrolled in a Chinese language course this term.

Tianjin Normal University, the Chinese partner university that co-established the Confucius Institute at the University of Hull, is now inviting applications for the 2026 Special Scholarship Program for International Students to Enhance Their Chinese Language Skills.

If you're passionate about learning Chinese and would like to further your studies in China, this is a fantastic opportunity to apply for a fully funded one-year scholarship.

Application deadline: 5 August 2026

📸 Take a look at our Dragon Boat Festival highlights! 🐉
✨On 22 June, CIUH brought the Dragon Boat Festival to Howden School. Students learned about the festival, made Five-Coloured Bracelets, and enjoyed fun outdoor activities including a Land Dragon Boat Race, Fishing for Zòngzi, and a Lucky Ring Toss.
