Speak and sign training 🤟
Yesterday, our Willerby team welcomed our local SENDCo for some training in Makaton. The team learned why Makaton is important and how we can incorporate it into our daily routines.
The team has already begun putting their learning into practice — signing during group times, singing nursery rhymes with actions, and signing during mealtimes!
Makaton is a language programme that uses signs, symbols, and speech to support communication in early years. It can help to reduce frustration, build confidence, and support language development for young children.
By providing visual support, Makaton encourages social interaction, inclusivity, and emotional expression - giving every child a stronger voice.
If you want to learn more about Makaton or how you can use it at home please ask and we will be happy to help!

World Book Day! 📚📖
We’ve had a fantastic week celebrating books and the joy of reading. The children and our team have been dressing up as their favourite characters, bringing much-loved stories to life throughout the week.
So far, we’ve fed The Very Hungry Caterpillar, dug for Superworms, baked Gruffalo crumble, created a Rainbow Fish in the water tray, and spent plenty of time reading stories, exploring tuff trays, and chatting about what we love most about our favourite books.
Reading in early years is incredibly important. It helps expand vocabulary, strengthen comprehension, and spark imagination. It also supports the development of literacy skills while nurturing children’s emotional, social, and brain development.
Thank you to all our parents for getting involved and helping make it such a fantastic week. And a big thank you to our staff for doing your commute in some very unusual outfits… 😄

❤️ Valentine’s Fun – Jars of Love ❤️
We explored the colours red and pink while filling our Jars of Love with special ingredients like kindness, family, and friendship. The children loved scooping and sifting through the sensory tray as they created their own jars, sharing kind words and talking about the people they care about. 🥰✨

A huge well done to our Hull kitchen team, who scored 5 in their surprise food hygiene inspection today! This is the highest possible rating, and means the Food Standards Agency rated our hygiene standards as 'very good' 👏
Food hygiene ratings are based on:
🍴 How food is prepared and stored
🧽 The physical condition of the kitchen
✅ Food safety processes and training
A top rating is especially important for us, as the children could easily become poorly if high food standards aren't always followed.
We’re so proud of you, team! Thank you for your dedication and hard work 🎉

We’ve got some exciting news at our Hull setting 📣
Alicia is stepping up as our new Preschool Room Leader! She’ll be supported by Bukola and El, who are both moving into their new Senior Practitioner roles 👏🏼
Over in the Baby Room, Sekiera is also stepping up as a Senior Practitioner 🙌🏼
Huge congratulations to all four team members - we are all super proud of the journeys you have been on with Springboard, and we wish you the best of luck in your new roles (you don't need it, we know you'll be amazing!)

The children at Hull had a very special visit from Humberside Police as part of the police force's community engagement work 👮
Each month, Officer Lindsay visits us to read stories and spend time with the children, helping them feel more comfortable around uniformed police officers. This time, however, we had an extra special treat...
The children were able to try on police uniform, hold equipment, and sit in a police car with the lights flashing. It was all very exciting! 🚔
Thank you so much for coming to see us - we all had a fantastic time and feel extra safe with such friendly officers working in our area.

High five for National Friendship Day! 🖐
To celebrate National Friendship Day today, the children in the baby room enjoyed a range of creative and sensory activities that encouraged working together and building friendships 🌸
Out in the garden, they created their own friendship potions using water and flower petals. Working in small groups, the children shared jugs and bowls as they scooped, poured, and mixed, practising turn-taking and teamwork along the way.
Later on, everyone contributed to a lovely collaborative art piece: our very own Friendship Tree. The children painted their hands (and kindly helped friends paint theirs!) before pressing them onto paper to create a colourful collection of handprints 🎨
These activities supported the children’s understanding of friendship, kindness, and working together as a team ☺️
