I am super excited and proud to be able to announce that our SM6 Acting Company has been selected to take part in NT connections 2024. Connections is the National Theatre’s nationwide youth theatre festival. As part of the festival, our Acting company will perform a brand new work from a selection of 10 newly commissioned plays. We have the opportunity to work with the play’s writer and NT professinals, building up to debut public performances. We then perform at our professional partner theatre ‘York Theatre Royal’ in April. Ten companies from the Connections ‘24 festival will be chosen to perform at the National Theatre in London! Do you want in? Be part of Connections ‘24 by signing up to our SM6 Acting Company open to all year 12 and 13 students. We will meet each Thursday evening. Look out for our starting date in Sept. Be part of our SM6 Performing Arts legacy!

** YEAR 11 GCSE RESULTS SUCCESS**
Maria Stead, Head of School at St Mary’s College is understandably delighted today, “Year 11 students at St Mary’s College have once again achieved amazing outcomes. 34% of all number grades awarded were grades 7-9 which is a phenomenal achievement! For a year group who missed a significant tranche of KS3, they have proved themselves highly resilient, focused and committed. All staff at SMC are very proud of them.
We look forward to welcoming back into SM6 those who are going on to study Level 3 courses as well as those who will be joining us anew from other schools. Well done SMC Year 11 Class of 2023!”
• 82.61% of grades across all subjects were grade 4 and above

Join the MHSC Academy this summer at SM6- we are enrolling students this week after GCSE results.
With just over two weeks of the Summer break left, here are the key dates for your diaries if you haven't yet noted them down.
~A LEVEL RESULTS DAY~
Mrs Stead, Head of School at St Mary’s College has sent the following message to our Sixth Form students receiving results today:
“It has been a privilege to see how our Year 13s have grown both emotionally and academically in the last 2 years.
For a year group where a number of students were not afforded the opportunity to sit the GCSE examinations, and therefore had not experienced any external assessments since KS2, they have been amazing. Their outstanding results-which buck the national trend in being better than 2019 - are a testament to their resilience and relentless hard work. At SM6, we are all extremely proud of them all.
Of course, such outstanding outcomes would never be possible without the dedication and commitment of our staff. I want to thank each and every one of them, they have been the difference for so many of our students. It is truly a day to celebrate!”
Our highlights include:
• Four students successful in securing places on Oxbridge courses
• Significantly more A* grades than in 2019
• One student achieved 5 A* grades and will be off to Edinburgh to study Astro Physics

You’ll be aware that the final Year 13 examination results are being issued this Thursday (17th August). Many students are still awaiting confirmation of a place at university and some also have grade expectations for apprenticeships. The results day on Thursday will reveal to many if they’ve gained the grades needed to be accepted by their next choice. Results are available from 9am.
For any student who has selected a university choice that is dependent on entry requirements, it will be good to prepare for all eventualities on the day. As a potential back-up, in case they don’t achieve the grades they were hoping for, students can use 'UCAS Clearing' to find an alternative university course. All students will have access to this now, through their UCAS login and it will currently list which universities have places available and the courses that are free. When results day arrives, the number of vacancies will grow significantly in number.
To help with possible conversations at home and to give you the information on how to use UCAS Clearing, I’ve linked their guide written for parents below 👇
I’ll be on-site this Thursday and Friday, all day. Please feel free to come and chat with me if you need any help or guidance regarding your child’s next steps – I’ll share advice and will hopefully be able to point you in the right direction. It can be a very worrying time but it’s worth knowing that whatever the results gained, there are options. Even when students are initially disappointed, there will be alternative paths available and things can still work out. On Thursday I’ll be located on the ground floor in C1 and on Friday I’ll be at the SM6 Reception desk area.
All the best, Mr Charlton.

Year 13 Results Day is this Thursday, 17th August.
