Join the MHSC Academy this summer at SM6- we are enrolling students this week after GCSE results.

With just over two weeks of the Summer break left, here are the key dates for your diaries if you haven't yet noted them down.

~A LEVEL RESULTS DAY~
Mrs Stead, Head of School at St Maryโs College has sent the following message to our Sixth Form students receiving results today:
โIt has been a privilege to see how our Year 13s have grown both emotionally and academically in the last 2 years.
For a year group where a number of students were not afforded the opportunity to sit the GCSE examinations, and therefore had not experienced any external assessments since KS2, they have been amazing. Their outstanding results-which buck the national trend in being better than 2019 - are a testament to their resilience and relentless hard work. At SM6, we are all extremely proud of them all.
Of course, such outstanding outcomes would never be possible without the dedication and commitment of our staff. I want to thank each and every one of them, they have been the difference for so many of our students. It is truly a day to celebrate!โ
Our highlights include:
โข Four students successful in securing places on Oxbridge courses
โข Significantly more A* grades than in 2019
โข One student achieved 5 A* grades and will be off to Edinburgh to study Astro Physics

Youโll be aware that the final Year 13 examination results are being issued this Thursday (17th August). Many students are still awaiting confirmation of a place at university and some also have grade expectations for apprenticeships. The results day on Thursday will reveal to many if theyโve gained the grades needed to be accepted by their next choice. Results are available from 9am.
For any student who has selected a university choice that is dependent on entry requirements, it will be good to prepare for all eventualities on the day. As a potential back-up, in case they donโt achieve the grades they were hoping for, students can use 'UCAS Clearing' to find an alternative university course. All students will have access to this now, through their UCAS login and it will currently list which universities have places available and the courses that are free. When results day arrives, the number of vacancies will grow significantly in number.
To help with possible conversations at home and to give you the information on how to use UCAS Clearing, Iโve linked their guide written for parents below ๐
https://www.ucas.com/undergraduate/clearing-and-results-day/what-clearing/clearing-guide-parents
Iโll be on-site this Thursday and Friday, all day. Please feel free to come and chat with me if you need any help or guidance regarding your childโs next steps โ Iโll share advice and will hopefully be able to point you in the right direction. It can be a very worrying time but itโs worth knowing that whatever the results gained, there are options. Even when students are initially disappointed, there will be alternative paths available and things can still work out. On Thursday Iโll be located on the ground floor in C1 and on Friday Iโll be at the SM6 Reception desk area.
All the best, Mr Charlton.

Year 13 Results Day is this Thursday, 17th August.
