We are Earth Science at the University of Hull.

Geology at Hull is part of the Department of Geography, Geology and Environment, which sits within the Faculty of Science and Engineering.

Last day in the field for our first years, and today they were mapping Ynys Llanddwyn, where they got to examine pristine pillow lavas as well as a suit of other marine sediments.

Parys Mountain this morning to look at ore minerals and the effect of mining on a landscape then off to the coast to log the Quaternary glacial sediments and then log sheared and deformed Devonian sandstones. A big day for our 1st years but they got the weather for it!

Mapping at Rhoscolyn today for our first years! Beautiful spot with some lovely rocks, flora and fauna. Looks like even Dave was having a nice time on the deformed rocks!

While our first years are in Wales, our third years have headed south to Cornwall for their final field course. This morning they are in Milford Haven to look at the classic Variscan chevron folds.

Our first years are off the Anglesey as part of their Earth in 3D module. Day 1 was spent at South Stack admiring some impressive folds and the pretty striking lighthouse! 🚨

Another week and another field course for our second year BSc students. Today they were looking at ancient rivers on the Jurassic coast in Burniston. We also found a very exciting, simply Jurassic, footprint!

Day 3 of the Almeria field course for all of our GEES second years we went to the to look at renewable energy research. This is the largest research, development and testing centre in Europe dedicated to concentrating solar technologies.
