Based in Hull but through the magic of Zoom, I am available for online tutoring anywhere. Hi, I am a teacher with 25 years experience in both primary and secondary schools. I have also worked for 7 years as a personal tutor to students from KS1-KS4 in English and Maths. As a teacher, tutor and also 1:1 classroom support, I have experience in tailoring learning to meet a range of special needs . As a tutor, I can make even more specific adaptations and therefore accelerate learning. For each of the children I tutor, I create personal programmes by listening to concerns, observing children's work and tailoring classes to address their specific needs. This allows them to succeed immediately and continue to do so. This can do wonders for a children's self belief and help them to reach their full potential. Essential to this is the initial conversation and assessment. This is free of charge and enables me to make the content of the classes relevant and purposeful from the very start. By observing the way children write and calculate, I can identify potential issues immediately and address these before they become embedded. Depending on the needs of the child, I can work in different ways:
*supplementing what is happening in school to ensure understanding
*working independently of the school curriculum to fill in gaps
*a combination of filling in gaps and supporting with what is happening in school. It may be necessary to set homework between sessions. This is particularly true of English at KS3 or KS4. When working on analysis of a text for example, the reading will need to be done in advance so to make most constructive use of the time we have together.
