π Liberty Academy 22 Sirius Academy West 24 π
π The Sirius Academy West Year 8 boys got their Super League campaign off to a great start, with a victory away at Liberty Academy. The boys looked up for this one, and even in the warm up, the intensity was there for all to see.
π Sirius started the game camped on the Liberty try line, however, they could not find a way over, credit must go to the Liberty defence on keeping us out. When Liberty got the ball, their most dangerous player broke through the line and went over 80 meters for a 6 - 0 lead. Sirius knew they had to do better in defence against their strongest player and made some tweaks in defence to ensure this was done. With ball in hand Sirius looked dangerous, and it wasn't long before they went over for a try of their own, some great hands down the right-hand edge saw Max H finish off a well worked move to make it 6 - 4. Sirius took the lead shortly after, as a precision grubber kick to the corner found Oscar W, who caught the ball on the bounce well to score in the corner, 8 - 6 in favour of Sirius. The forwards for Sirius were running well, with Cohen O and Freddie C leading the way, and then fullback Jacob W coming into the line well showing great agility to make good yards forward for his team. Sirius worked their way down field and got close to the tryline, and there was no stopping Archie B who scooted over showing real strength and determination, Harrie R converted for a 14 - 6 lead at the break.
π Liberty started the second half with a try in the corner to make it 14 - 10 . However, the response was immediate from Sirius as Kirsten O came in for a scoot at just the right time, catching the Liberty defence back tracking, and there was only one outcome when he broke the line, as the speedster raced over 60 meters to score under the sticks, a fine individual try to extend the score to 20 - 10. Liberty fought back again to make it 20 - 16, but once again, the determination, teamwork and skill from the Sirius side was exceptional, as Dylan H took the ball up making good meters, but got that all important quick play the ball, Devon R at acting half back spotted the overlap on the left, Harrie G found Max H with a great draw and pass as the loose forward went over for his second of the game to make it 24 - 16 with a few minutes remaining. An error from Sirius gave Liberty the ball back and they went over again to make for a nervous last 30 seconds with only 2 points in it. Sirius defended well for the three tackles that Liberty had, and the final whistle went, Sirius celebrated their 24 - 22 victory, knowing they had really put in a good performance against a side that was in the top 4 in the country last year.
π Please congratulate the boys on their enthusiasm, teamwork and aggression, which culminated in one of their best performances to date:
Jacob W, Oscar W, Lewie V, Charlie C, Henry B, Harrie G, Jacob S, Cohen O, Devon R, Freddie C, Archie B, Kirsten O, Max H, Billy B, Dylan H and George S.
π Player of the match went to Kirsten O, he looked superb with the ball in hand, but his defence caught the eye, with some fine try saving tackles on Liberty's most dangerous player. We now look forward to taking on St Mary's on Monday 5th October.
Many Thanks
