Back in the woods after a weeks break and there was lots to discover.

We found a pot floating in Stover lake so we decided to get it out so it wouldn’t be polluting the lake! What happened when we pulled it out? Lots of creatures had made it their home! Water snails, leeches and there were even some eggs. That led to a chat about what is the best thing to do next!

We followed on from our caterpillar making by making some beauuutiful butterflies! Using the flowers and leaves to give them colour.
The wood surprised us with a marshmallow use lying on a log but when we looked closer we found it was a slime mould.

Forest school is whatever the weather, and the weather is sunny and warm!

No photos from today’s session but it was great to be back in the woods with the parents and their little ones.

We’ve missed these sessions so much and it was great to see how the children had grown and meet some new faces.

We made seeds bombs to spread the wildflower love and got used to being back outdoors on our special site.

Looking forward to next week when we go on a little adventure!

We’re back in the woods after the Easter break and it was super sunny!!

We visited the pond and found 4 frogs, found some buried treasure that was returned to the mud kitchen.

In aid of Earth Week we made some seed bombs to spread some wild flower seeds far and wide to help feed the bees!

We mixed our lovely Stover clay with a sprinkle of soil and some wild flower seed mix and rolled them into balls to be thrown where ever needs a little brightening up!

Last session for us today as Friday is a bank holiday.

More Easter egg hunting and chocolate nest making, thanks to Earthkind: Refills on Wheels the nest were virtually plastic free!
What a wonderful way to end the term, sunshine and chocolate.

We’ll be back in the woods from the 19th April to watch Spring turn into Summer.

Rainy day walks around the lake taking in all the different birds that make Stover their home.

Lots of puddle jumping and we even spotted some ice left over from the frost yesterday.

Was a dragon breath day today!

Awesome frost everywhere. We decided to walk around Stover to do some bird spotting.

We also had a go a skidding on the ice, spotting a giant snail and climbing in the trees.

A glorious chilly morning today and we’re already thinking about the festive period.

We talked about advent starting this Sunday so made advent wreaths and candle to sit in the middle of them, some made mini wreaths for their front door, some just jumped in muddy puddles.

Spot the Frog?

In this picture there is at least 1 frog....can you see it or any more?

Most sessions we check out our pond and lift up our creature hideout to see if anything is hiding underneath.

Mostly we find frogs, we’ve also seen newts, evidence of mice hiding their winter stash and mushrooms growing in the dark.

Today was epic!!!

They all had so much energy. So...they made a hotel, cooked some Welsh cakes, made candles, found jelly on leaves (Cadis fly eggs!), created a boot sucking bog, dug the land equivalent of the Marianna trench, whittled mushrooms, walked between trees, played tracker, toasted marshmallows....I’m sure there were things that I didn’t see.

Half term next week, then back in the woods with these wonderful lot on the 6th November.

Our week in the woods!

So many groups get different things from being the woods! All the groups were fascinated by the mushrooms, the preschoolers just loved pointing them out and discovering all the different places they were hiding! The home Ed group wanted to discover more, so were trying to ID them and dissect them for a closer look

We made leaf people pictures inspired by the book leaf man.
Used our saw to cut discs and logs then chopped them to make books

Cooked savoury pancakes with cheese and herbs

I love the diversity of how each group experiences the same space!

I wonder what they’ll do next week?
