Tuesday night ‘teens and Adults. Running through some basics (Ido Kihon) here the Students are practicing ‘Gedan Barai’ downward Block (or downward Sweep). That terminology confuses people. Gedan Barai is often taught as a lower block to a Kick. However it can be applied as a strike. In some Kata (research ‘Kata’) we teach it as more of a strike than a simple block. There’s nothing simple about it, nor anything else in Karate. That’s why it’s a study and as deep as you want it to be. It’s exercise but it also can be applied to everyday life. The mental and physical benefits of this Art are many fold.

Well done Sally and Mary Sensei! Nice little Junior class last night.

Well done! Congratulations are in order! A grading pass! To make that even more of an achievement the pass was having missed the previous grading months ago due to being out of the Country. Not letting that miss hit confidence personifies what this stuff is all about.

Karate is not about ‘Fighting’ it’s about self development and facing down your fears, finding out that the ‘Fear’ is worse than what is actually feared!

This is deliberately a small class and for the right reasons. Karate builds character but it also reveals character. Anyone Young or Older can practice Karate but Karate and its methods are not for everyone.

This class has worked tirelessly over the month and years. There’s a sense of children ‘looking out for each other and belonging’ a sense of ‘Kindness’, in a strong and quiet way. At the same time there is a spirited physical performance of their skills and practice of important principles of body movement.

At Chi Rei Kai we are extremely proud of each and every one of them! 👊🥋🙏🏻

Spring is finally here! It certainly felt like that this morning at the Stokenham Dojo! The group split into two, with Mary Sensei taking our lower Kyu Grades through their grading syllabus in preparation for the upcoming grading.
Jay Sensei took the 4th Kyu’s and Dan grades through angle work within Kumite and Enpi Kata
It was a brilliant and tough session… a good warm up to tomorrows Quarterly Chi Rei Kai event at KCC
