Kingsbridge Community College Celebrates GCSE Success

The GCSE students at Kingsbridge Community College, (KCC) are celebrating another fantastic year of success today (Thursday 20th August.) Students have received a strong set of results, reflecting their hard work and commitment throughout their time at the college.

This year’s GCSE results mark an improvement in outcomes for KCC students, with strong performance across a wide range of subjects and a wealth of exciting pathways open to them as they take their next steps.

More than a quarter of all grades awarded were at the highest levels of 9–7 (26.5%), while 80% of grades were at grade 4 or above, representing a standard pass. The number of students achieving both the standard pass (grade 4) and strong pass (grade 5) in English and mathematics has also increased in both subjects. These achievements are particularly significant in helping students secure their chosen next steps into sixth form, college, further education and apprenticeships, giving them the qualifications they need to pursue their ambitions.

Among those celebrating exceptional results are:
Bryn Walsh, who secured an outstanding eight grade 9s and two grade 8s.
Zak Alcroft, who achieved seven grade 9s, two grade 8s and one grade 7.
Jack Graham, who achieved six grade 9s, three grade 8s and one grade 7.
Sebastian Bly, who achieved seven grade 9s, three grade 8s and one grade 6.
Izzy Niblett, who achieved six grade 9s, three grade 8s and two grade 7s.
Amy Lakeman, who achieved six grade 9s, one grade 8, two grade 7s and a Level 2 Distinction, equivalent to a further grade 7.
Finn Whitaker, who secured six grade 9s, two grade 8s, one grade 7 and one grade 6.

KCC staff are incredibly proud of all their students and their achievements. They are particularly delighted that these students will continue their academic journey in the Sixth Form at Kingsbridge Community College, where staff look forward to seeing them build on their success, continue to flourish and act as positive role models for younger students across the school.

Alongside these outstanding individual performances, many other students have made significant progress from their starting points, demonstrating determination, resilience and a commitment to their learning. Their achievements are particularly noteworthy given the challenges they experienced during their education as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, which disrupted the end of their primary education and the beginning of their time at Kingsbridge Community College.

Today’s results reflect not only the hard work and dedication of KCC students, but also the support they have received throughout their journey. Staff are grateful to their families and to the wider community for the encouragement and support they have provided. Together, this has helped students overcome challenges, realise their potential and reach this important milestone with confidence as they look ahead to the next chapter of their education.

This academic year, Kingsbridge Community College has continued to offer a diverse range of experiences designed to broaden horizons, develop skills and enrich learning beyond the classroom.

Students have showcased their creativity through the annual KCCREATE exhibition at Harbour House Gallery, gained invaluable insights from a visit by the Bank of England, and explored the South West coastline through geography fieldwork.

The college has also championed student wellbeing through Mental Health Awareness Week activities, while aspiring engineers competed in the Greenpower Electric Car Endurance event, developing practical STEM and teamwork skills.

Recently, students took part in an innovative police challenge event delivered in partnership with Devon & Cornwall Police, giving them hands-on experience of problem-solving, public service and community safety.

Across the year, Kingsbridge Community College has remained committed to providing exceptional enrichment opportunities, strong community partnerships and real-world experiences that prepare students for future study, careers and life beyond school.

Kingsbridge Community College Celebrates Outstanding A Level Results

Kingsbridge Community College, (KCC) is once again celebrating an exceptional year of A Level and Vocational results today (Thursday 13th August.)
Students have achieved impressive outcomes across the board, reflecting their hard work and the unwavering support of staff and families.
KCC students have made exceptional progress during their time in Sixth Form with 26% achieving A*-A grades and 55% achieving A*-B grades. Students on vocational courses exceeded expectations with 40% on Applied General courses achieving Distinction or Distinction* and a phenomenal 76% of our technical Media Diploma students achieving Distinction or Distinction*.
We are incredibly proud of every student and how hard they have worked. These results are a testimony to their dedication and the expert support of their teachers. Most importantly, these outcomes have allowed them to successfully secure places at universities such as Oxford, Bristol and Durham as well as direct routes into employment in the local community and beyond.
Particular recognition goes to the following students who excelled: Edward Alexander (A*A*A*), Freyja Freestone (A*A*A*A*), Amelie Laity (A*A*A*) Anna Lindeque (A*A*A A) and Frida Gallego-Cooper (A*B Dist*Dist*). The following students all achieved an incredible triple Distinction* in their Media Diploma: Georgia Hamm, Lemmy Coughlin, Rosie Marshall, Callum Mapson, Art Lawrence, Jack Kennedy and Larianna Campbell.
Kingsbridge Community College's thriving sixth form attracts students from across South Devon thanks to its welcoming community, broad curriculum and strong academic outcomes.
Students can choose from an extensive range of A level subjects alongside vocational and work-based qualifications, with many also undertaking the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) or additional A levels to further challenge themselves.
Alongside academic excellence, the Sixth Form places a strong emphasis on leadership, personal development and enrichment, equipping students with the confidence, independence and skills needed for university, apprenticeships and employment.
With tailored guidance, specialist mentoring and outstanding pastoral support, the vast majority of students progress to higher education or other ambitious destinations, while playing an important role in shaping the life and character of the college through leadership and service to the wider school community.

Kingsbridge Community College Students Take on Real-Life Police Challenge

Year 10 students at Kingsbridge Community College stepped into the role of detectives this term as they took part in a unique police challenge event designed to provide a realistic insight into policing, community safety and the work of the emergency services.
Delivered in partnership with Devon & Cornwall Police as part of the college's Discovery Challenge Week, the immersive experience saw students work alongside police officers during a fictional investigation, learning how evidence is gathered, witnesses are interviewed and incidents are managed.
The scenario began with students responding to a simulated incident involving an injured person before progressing through the stages of a police investigation. As part of the exercise, the wider college community also took part in a planned lockdown practice, allowing students and staff to experience how schools and emergency services work together to keep people safe during an emergency.
The event was carefully planned and fully risk assessed by both the college and Devon & Cornwall Police, with student wellbeing remaining a priority throughout.
As well as providing a valuable learning opportunity for students, the exercise also supported police training and strengthened the partnership between the college and local emergency services.
Throughout the day, students developed problem-solving, communication and teamwork skills while gaining a greater understanding of the wide range of careers available within policing and public service.
The police challenge formed part of Kingsbridge Community College's Year 10 Discovery Challenge Week, which provides students with a range of experiences designed to broaden their horizons, develop life skills and inspire future aspirations.

Today, we marked the end of the school year with our final assembly, giving us the chance to come together, celebrate and reflect on everything that has made this year so special.

It has been a busy and memorable year, filled with achievements, opportunities and so many fantastic moments. From successes in the classroom to trips and visits, sporting fixtures, competitions and performances, there has been so much to celebrate across college. Add in exams, proms, new experiences and emotional farewells, and it's safe to say it's been quite a journey!

Throughout it all, our students have continued to make us incredibly proud. The enthusiasm, resilience, creativity and kindness you show, as well as the way you support and encourage one another, is a real credit to you all.

A huge congratulations and thank you to every one of our students for everything you have brought to college life this year. 👏

📍 Skate Club Trip to Kingsbridge Skatepark 🛹☀️

What a fantastic couple of afternoons for our Skate Club students, who recently enjoyed a 2 trips to Kingsbridge Skatepark
Despite the hot weather, students showed incredible enthusiasm and determination, spending the session pushing themselves out of their comfort zones, developing new skateboarding skills and making excellent progress throughout the day. It was brilliant to see so many students supporting one another, building confidence, and celebrating each other's achievements as they tackled new challenges.
A huge well done to everyone who attended for their positive attitude, resilience and willingness to keep trying, even when things got tough. The progress made by all involved was truly impressive, and most importantly, everyone had an amazing time!
We would also like to extend a special thank you to Friends of KCC, whose funding of Mr Hamilton's and Mr Thomson's Skate GB Coaching Memberships this year has enabled us to run our popular Break 2 Skate Club throughout the year. Their support has helped create valuable opportunities for students to develop their skills, stay active, and enjoy skateboarding in a safe and supportive environment.

Kingsbridge Community College Students Race into Engineering Challenge

Students from Kingsbridge Community College put their engineering skills to the test this term as they competed in the Greenpower Electric Car Endurance South West event.
Nine students from years 7 to 9 took part in the exciting competition, which challenges young people to design, build and race electric vehicles while developing valuable skills in engineering, teamwork and problem-solving.
The Kingsbridge team competed against around 30 other schools and teams across two demanding 90-minute endurance races, putting months of preparation, collaboration and technical expertise into practice on the track.
Throughout the day, students worked together to monitor the car's performance, adapt their race strategy and support one another through the challenges of endurance racing, gaining hands-on experience of engineering in action.
The Greenpower initiative is designed to inspire the next generation of engineers by combining STEM learning with real-world challenges, encouraging young people to develop practical skills while exploring careers in science, technology and engineering.
