South Wootton Preschool strives to ensure our children are at the centre of everything we do by making sure they feel happy, safe, and respected. Our aim is that the children will be motivated to ask questions and that their views, ideas, and opinions will be valued and promoted. We offer opportunities to develop children’s self-esteem, confidence, and resilience by providing challenges to accommo

date their individual abilities and diverse needs. We believe that every child has unique talents which may take different forms however these are equally valued and encouraged. Staff are dedicated to providing a nurturing environment whilst continuously updating their knowledge and understanding, which ensures all children are reaching their full potential and best possible outcome. We strongly advocate our outdoor environment as it offers resources that enable the children to take risks, use their imagination and develop an understanding and respect for our natural world. We greatly believe in effective communication with parents by keeping them informed with their children’s progress and achievements in order to enhance their learning, development, and wellbeing. We are open term time only and offer 4 morning sessions Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday 8:30 to 11:30 and 4 afternoon sessions, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday 12:00 to 15:00. We take all children from the age of 2 years up to 4 years. We are a registered early years provider and are eligible for Early Years funding for 2, 3 & 4 year olds. All our staff are highly qualified and experienced practitioners, many have been with the pre-school for a long period of time. All staff have clear DBS certificates and keep their paediatric first aid training up to date.

⭐️⭐️⭐️SUMMER⭐️⭐️⭐️

☀️We have been learning all about summer now we have started to see the sun in the sky. ☀️

🧳The children enjoyed packing their suitcase for their summer holiday. We talked about what clothes to wear in the summer to keep us cool. The children even extended the activity to pack for a winter holiday and even went in to make their own passports too. 🧳

⛺️The children then went on their camping holiday and built dens. This is such a great activity for teamwork between the children and promotes creativity and physical development skills. ⛺️

🍦Next while on holiday the children created their own ice cream art. We used food colouring in water for the flavourings and used pipettes to drop their flavouring onto cotton wool pads. It was great fun guessing the flavours depending on the colour. The children thought the green colour could be cucumber.🍦

👗Finally when we come back from holiday, the children washed and dried all their clothes. 👕

👃🏼What a fun week. Next we are moving onto learning all about our senses. 👂🏻

🏙️The last stop on our round the world trip was North and South America. The children enjoyed junk modelling and building their own skyscrapers. We love junk modelling as it really helps the children to develop their creating skills by learning how to join materials together, resize resources and make their imagination come to life. 🏙️

🌳We then moved on to learn all about the animals that live in rainforests and make Brazilian carnival masks. What a great term we had.🌳

⭐️⭐️⭐️ BENEFITS OF SAND PLAY⭐️⭐️⭐️

🪏We have welcomed the children back and have made lots of changes to our garden over the holiday. All will be revealed once it’s completed!!! 🪏

🪣One of the changes was the addition of a huge new sand pit! The children are enjoying it so much and in the space of just 10 minutes we observed them digging holes, making patterns with their fingers and vehicles, diggers moving the sand around, sand castles, even cutting the sand with pliers. 🪣

🏝️Sand is so beneficial for children in early years. The children become imaginative and expressive, they use hand eye coordination, fine and gross motor skills and use scientific and mathematical concepts such as cause and effect and volume capacity. The children also become social and want to work together to achieve their goals. 🏝️

😊The sand is here to stay and the children will benefit so much from having it 😊

⭐️⭐️⭐️MAGNETIC TILES⭐️⭐️⭐️

🧲We have recently purchased some new magnetic tiles and the children have been testing building cubes and then adding roofs to make a house. 🧲

🏠Today we moved our construction storage to use the magnetic tiles on the metal radiator and a child starting building a house and stuck it on the radiator, turning our usual flat patterns on the radiator into a 3d shape.🏠

🚀As staff we had never thought of doing this, so not only did more and more children experiment making more 3d shapes, the staff did too. One child built a star, then another added a rocket next to it. One child put two houses together and then another came along and said they were adding a loft. 🚀

🧑‍🔬Such a simple little experiment from one child, has now changed the way in which we can use the magnetic tiles. This is why letting children experiment and use their imaginations, creates new and exciting ways to do things for everyone.🧑‍🔬

🇦🇺Last week took us to Australia. We looked at different types of transport to get to Australia and sorted the transport by air, water, road and rail. 🇦🇺

🪃Then we made boomerangs and looked at the patterns on them. The children used cotton buds to create the dots of the patterns. 🪃

🪸The children also learnt about the Great Barrier Reef and made their own coral from playdough, coloured pasta and pipe cleaners.🪸

🇧🇷This week we are moving onto our final part of the world tour, North and South America 🇺🇸

❄️This weeks travel round the world took us to Antarctica. ❄️

🐧We did some learning about the differences on the climate between Antarctica and the Desert and what animals live in each one. 🐧

🧊We also created an Antarctica tough tray where the children explored ice, shaving foam and cotton wool. They loved feeling the coldness of the ice and how it melted and dripped through the fingers.🧊

⭐️⭐️⭐️ASIA AND AFRICA⭐️⭐️⭐️

🌍This week has been a quick tour though two continents. We watched videos in registration all about both the continents and the children loved seeing what animals and food each continent has 🌍

🗻At the start of the week we learnt about Asia and made the Great Wall of China out of various blocks. This was a great teamwork and social activity and involved lots of creativeness and imagination. The children then made Mount Everest pictures from lollipop sticks and cotton wool. We discussed the temperature of the mountain and the height too, gaining great maths and understanding the world skills. 🗻

🦒Then we moved onto learning about Africa. We made a tough tray with lots of African animals in and matched the different patterns on their fur and skin. The children then got creative and made their own brightly coloured African necklaces from paper plate🦒

❄️Next week we are travelling to the coldest continent: Antarctica ❄️

Hello everyone. We are looking for a wooden swing set that has interchangeable seats and trapeze attachments if anyone is willing to donate us one. We are currently renovating our garden area and have created a space for a swing set.

Swings are vital in childhood as they provide the child the opportunity to improve their physical co-ordination and balance, stimulates their vestibular and proprioceptive systems with their rhythmic motion and promotes emotional regulation.

We would be very grateful and appreciative.

⭐️⭐️⭐️EUROPE⭐️⭐️⭐️

🌍The children have enjoyed learning about the UK and Europe last week.🌍

🇬🇧We have made Union Jack flags by finger painting and found the UK on the globe and on a map. 🇬🇧

🏰The children then looked at lots of European flags and matched the colours of the flags with the maths cubes. They made famous European buildings out of bricks, we loved how they kept tipping their towers to look like the Leaning Tower of Pisa. 🏰

🧀The children also tried some German Salami and cheese and listened to the Greek Zorba Dance and some Scottish bagpipes. 🧀

⭐️⭐️⭐️THE EARTH⭐️⭐️⭐️

🌍This term to coincide with Earth Day today, we are learning all about the world and the continents.🌍

🌊Last week we started off learning about the Earth, land and sea by creating Earth pictures, rolling balls over blue and green paint on a paper plate. It was so effective and they all turned out so unique. 🏔️

🌱We have also created our own preschool earth by gluing cotton wool to the continents and spreading cress seeds over the continents. The aim is that the cress grows to create our land and the blue paddling pool represents the sea. The children loved the process of this and enjoy watering the cress everyday and waiting for it to grow. 🌱

🧩The children have also enjoyed completing our magnetic world puzzle and looked at the animals and environments on each continent. 🧩

💶This week we are learning about the continent of Europe. 💶
