🪉Solace Sessions🪉

Join us at King's Lynn Library to experience beautiful relaxing harp music with professional harpist Xenia Horne.

📅 Tuesday 1st September
⏰ 11am
🎫 Free event, all welcome

Being together in time and in music creates a sense of community, and provides a safe, held environment, allowing us to process feelings and situations which are sometimes difficult to articulate. Through being together in time and in music, we know that our heartbeats and breathing will synchronise, helping to slow down our metabolism, bringing a reduction in stress, and a sense of relaxation.

This programme of work is supported with funding from DCMS 'Know Your Neighbourhood Fund' and delivered by Libraries Connected, Arts Council England and Creative Arts East

**STAFF RECOMMENDATION**

🎭Glorious Exploits by Ferdia Lennon🎭

I had no idea what to expect going into Glorious Exploits, but came out the other side having found my favourite book of 2025.

Set in ancient Sicily, the story follows Gelon – visionary, dreamer, theatre lover – and his best friend Lampo – lovesick, jobless, in need of a distraction – as they recruit a quarry of Athenian slaves into putting on a ramshackle production of their favourite play.

Think Withnail and I meets The Odyssey.

Despite the setting, the story is written in a modern Irish dialect, which lends every line a punch and personality you wouldn’t normally associate with historical fiction. The humour has a philosophical bend which reminded me of Terry Pratchett at times, albeit grounded in a far bloodier narrative.

But it’s not just jokes. Ferdia Lennon’s debut is as thoughtful as it is funny, and I particularly enjoyed its focus on the relationship between art and war, as well as the depiction of a close male friendship in the melancholic Gelon and self-destructive Lampo.

“You can hate the invaders but still love their poetry.”
