*Rights Respecting Schools*
In March, the Article of the Month is Article 27:
“Every child has the right a standard of living that is good enough to meet their physical and social needs and support their development. Governments must help families who cannot afford to provide this.”
During the month, the school will look at what this means not just for them (school report time and parent meetings!!) but also how these impacts on others who live within our community, town, country an across the globe.
Red Nose Day is all a bit of fun but the fundraising has a fundamental purpose and this money is used to support others in the UK and abroad to achieve aspects of this article.
As always, information will come from the school on the blog, app and email as we will post here as well.
Get your sweat on with Mr Swan tonight !
I’m already looking forward to expressing my inner Tina 😁
On World Book Day, we would like to ask you about your favourite books (as a child or adult) and memories of reading / what reading means to you now ?
Here’s what my fellow Parent Council member Elaine has to say …
“I loved to read when I was little (I still do - my Kindle cover is more worn out than my phone cover!). I loved Enid Blyton books, Famous Five being the ones I remember most as I think there was a programme on the TV as well. (I am a child of the 70s...).
But my one memory is buying the My Naughty Little Sister books. I loved the series and I loved what it represented. Saving my pocket money and then going shopping on holiday with my grandparents was all part of the experience. And if I bought the books early in the holiday, it kept me occupied in the evenings or early morning.
I loved the story and as a big sister, it was great to read about it from her perspective.
I may have moved on from the physical books to using an eReader, but I am sure my love of reading was nurtured during those holiday trips and has lasted a lifetime.”

I post this image with the understanding that most of you probably have no idea who this lady is 😂
Last night was the first of Mr Swan’s Community Dancercise classes and it was absolutely brilliant.
When I told my daughter what I was going to, she said “Mr Swan’s dance classes are mental” and I can’t say she was wrong 😂
However, I had so much fun and left feeling so much better than when I went in.
As you might imagine, it’s high energy; however I am really unfit and still managed the whole class, helped by the brilliant music and ‘gentle encouragement’ from Mr Swan. You can just go at your own pace.
The class is running on a Thursday night, from 6:00 - 6:45, in the school. It’s completely free and open to the whole Onthank Community.
Come and give it a go next week; you literally have nothing to lose and you’ll feel so much better for it 😊

Celebrate Kilmarnock East Ayrshire Council Onthank Parent Council
One of the things we discussed at the group session was how the school was pretty much closed off during Covid and parents / carers are almost wary of coming into the school or reaching out, even if they have got something they would like to discuss or raise.
*The school would like to stress they very much have an open-door policy and welcome all parents / carers to reach out, if they have got something they would like to discuss*
The Senior Leadership Team can often be seen in the playground at the start and end of the day and can also be contacted by phone or email or an arranged face to face meeting. Likewise with class teachers.
Alternatively, you can get in touch with the Parent Council, who can take feedback forward on your behalf or attend one of our meetings (please note that the Parent Council does not get involved with individuals’ circumstances, but more general year group or whole school situations).
It is only by bringing things into the fore that things can change; if the school aren’t aware, there’s no chance of anything being discussed / resolved / improved.
