🥋 Sakai Karate – Weekly Round-Up! 🥋

A look back at some of our classes from this week! 👊

We got the head guards and body armour out and gave our students a taster of the competition experience in a class environment.

They learned about competition scoring, tactics, and how points are awarded🏆🥋

Amazing Connor 👏

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 FLYING THE FLAG IN SWITZERLAND! 🇨🇭🥉

What a performance from Connor McCluskey at the Basel International Open in Switzerland! 🔥🥋

Competing in Cadet Male Kumite -63kg, Connor stepped onto the tatami as the only Scottish athlete in his category, facing an international field featuring competitors from France, Holland, Switzerland, Germany, Austria and Italy.

And he delivered. 👊

🔵 1st Round: Switzerland 🇨🇭 WIN 1–0
Connor defeated the Swiss National Champion to open his campaign.

🔵 2nd Round: Italy 🇮🇹 WIN 1–0

🔵 Semi-Final: Germany 🇩🇪 2–2

An incredibly tight contest, with Connor narrowly missing out on a place in the final.

🔵 Bronze Medal Match: Switzerland 🇨🇭 WIN 1–0 🥉
Four international matches.

Three victories. And a BRONZE MEDAL coming home to Scotland! 🏆

Results like this are about far more than the medal. They come from hours of training, travelling, competing, learning, and continually testing yourself against athletes from different countries.

For Connor to stand on an international podium in a field of this quality is another significant step forward in his development.

Congratulations, Connor: Basel International Open BRONZE MEDALLIST! 🥉🇨🇭

A fantastic performance and another international result to be proud of. 💙

🥋 VOLUNTEERS NEEDED — COMMONWEALTH KARATE CHAMPIONSHIPS 2026

The Commonwealth Karate Championships are coming to Glasgow, and volunteers will play a huge part in helping this major international event run smoothly.

We need people to support a wide range of roles, including:

✅ Table officials
✅ Helping athletes and coaches
✅ Registration and event support
✅ Guiding teams around the venue
✅ General competition-day assistance

This is a massive event for karate in Scotland and a brilliant opportunity to be involved behind the scenes, meet people from across the Commonwealth and help showcase Scottish karate at its very best.

You do not need to be a karate expert just reliable, positive and willing to help.

📅 5–8 November 2026**
📍 Glasgow International Arena

Anyone interested in volunteering should please get in touch as soon as possible.

Before we kick off another week, here’s a look back at some Friday Night Fight Action! 🔥👊

First up, we worked on competition tactics , learning how to handle pressure, stay calm, think clearly and react smart, even when you’re backed into a corner. 🧠💪

Then it was straight into sparring, putting those tactics into action with focus, spirit and full effort! 🔥🥊
