Today at nursery we celebrated the wonderful David Attenborough as he turns 100! 🎉🌍🦒
The children had such a fantastic day exploring the world of animals and nature. We spent time learning about different animals, counting and sorting using numbers, and having lovely conversations about where animals live and their habitats. The children showed so much curiosity, confidence, and imagination throughout the activities. 🐘🐒🐧
We also became little explorers outdoors, where our amazing helpers joined us on a stick hunt to collect natural materials. The children worked together brilliantly, sharing ideas and helping one another along the way. 🍂🌿
Back inside, the fun continued as we used the sticks and other creative resources to make our very own dinosaurs! 🦖 The children loved designing and building them, using their fine motor skills, teamwork, and creativity.
It has been a joyful day full of learning, discovery, and adventure — inspiring our little learners to care about the world around them, just as David Attenborough has inspired generations to do. 💚✨

🚒✨ What an exciting afternoon we had! ✨🚒
As part of our topic “People Who Help Us”, we were thrilled to welcome a visit from the fire brigade. They spoke to us all about fire safety, what to do in an emergency, and gave us a great insight into their important job role.
The children were completely engaged throughout, asking lots of questions and showing great interest. We even had a special demonstration, where our staff member Emily was asked to be our helper and show everyone the fire safety equipment – the children were fascinated by everything the firefighters wear!
To top it all off, they brought along their fire engine for us to explore. The children loved seeing what it can do – it was such a fun and memorable experience for everyone.
Thank you so much to Fire Scotland for taking the time to visit us and help us learn such valuable lessons. 🚒❤️

Focusing on our topic of ’people who help us’, a group of children went on a trip to the local library, the Dick Institute, to find some books about the different people who can help us to bring back to nursery!
The children enjoyed a short walk to the library where we discussed road safety along the way🚘. The children showed super listening skills when asked to stop at the roads to look both ways before we could cross. Children developed gross motor skills when they had to climb up the stairs outside the library, ensuring to take their time.
Whilst in the library, some of the children had a look through the books📚. With the help of staff, children were able to find a book about the fire brigade which is our focus this week! The children learned about the process the fire fighters have to follow when the fire alarm rings and what noise the fire truck makes when it’s on its way to an emergency🚨. The children learned all about the different features of the fire truck and how the fire fighters safely put out fires!
Children showed a great interest in the story and really enjoyed this learning experience!

This week, the children in the Sunshine room will be learning about the fire brigade and how they help us. This will be apart of our “people who help us” initiative to show the children, the many ways in which the community can help us.
Today the children were pretending to be fire fighters and helped put out the fire🔥. The children were asked what they do in the case of a real fire in their house. The children were able to say that they would phone 999 and ask for the firemen. The children also said they needed water to put the fire out so they collected resources around the room for the water. They then took it in turns to pour the water over the “fire” to extinguish it. The children had great fun during this practical activity and helped develop their knowledge of firemen and what their job entails. The children also developed their gross motor skills, problem solving skills and fire safety awareness.
To follow on from this, the children were asked what they would do if the fire alarm went off in the nursery. The children were confident in saying that they would line up at the fire door and go outside with the ladies. The staff were really proud of the children today🤩

This week during outdoor play in the sunshine room, the child have demonstrated their gross motor skills by confidently moving across different parts of the garden. They were able to run with improved balance and coordination, navigate around obstacles, and climb onto low equipment with minimal support. The child showed increasing control when kicking and throwing a ball, adjusting their movements to aim more accurately. They also engaged in jumping activities, bending their knees and landing more steadily. This allows the children to build strength, coordination, and confidence in large body movements.
We have also been enjoying messy play and mark-making experiences outdoors. The children have been engaged with enthusiasm and curiosity, exploring a range of textures and materials such as paint, sand, chalk and foam. They used their hands and a variety of tools to create marks, including lines, dots, and circular patterns. The children showed increasing control when holding and moving tools, experimenting with different pressures and movements to achieve various effects. The children appeared focused and motivated, independently choosing materials and returning to the activity for extended periods. Through these experiences, the children are developing early mark-making skills alongside sensory awareness, creativity, and confidence in self-expression.

In the sunshine room some of the older children where given the oppurtunity to go on a walk within our local community. When approaching a road crossing, the group stopped as instructed. The children were encouraged to follow the “stop, look, listen, and think” approach, the children demonstrated good awareness by looking both ways and waiting for traffic to pass. When we got in to town the children learned about safety both inside and around the shop entrances, children stayed together but needed reminders to be mindful of other adults and also stranger danger.
The children showed confidence by placing items on the counter and engaging with the shop staff appropriately. They demonstrated developing social skills, such as taking turns, waiting patiently, and using polite language☺️

We’ve been exploring the people who help us in our community, and what a fantastic experience we had! 🚓👮♂️
We arranged a special visit from the police, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed learning all about their job. We even came up with our own questions to ask, which made the experience even more meaningful.
The officers were incredibly kind and engaging—they showed us their equipment and even took us outside to see the police car. We learned all about the sirens, lights, and why the cars are designed the way they are… and the highlight? We got to try the sirens ourselves! 🎉
It was such a fun and exciting morning, and everyone was fully engaged and interested from start to finish.
A big thank you to the officers for taking the time to visit us, and to everyone who came along—we hope you enjoyed it just as much as we did!

We had the best time on a trip to CentreStage! We were invited to listen to The Gruffalo Story, brought to life with amazing song, dance 🕺 and various props that were provided! The children loved acting out the story and identifying all the woodland animals and trying to make their sounds 🦊🐍🦉To finish we made our very own yummy gruffalo biscuits 🍪A big thank you to CentreStage for a very fun day. The staff did an incredible job at getting all children involved and were very upbeat, making the experience wonderful for both the children and staff! 🧡

🌈 Rainbow Room Update 🌈
We’ve been having a wonderfully colourful time in the Rainbow Room! The children have been busy exploring a variety of creative materials including brushes, rollers, and crayons. These activities have been fantastic for practising our pincer grip, helping to strengthen the small muscles in their hands and fingers—an important foundation for early writing skills. Alongside this, experimenting with different tools and colours supports creativity, hand-eye coordination, and self-expression.
We’ve also been making the most of our time in the garden 🌿 enjoying fresh air, physical play, and opportunities to explore the natural environment. Outdoor play helps to build confidence, develop gross motor skills, and supports overall wellbeing.
It’s been a special time for some of our children who have recently turned (or are about to turn!) 2 years old 🎉 We’ve been supporting them through transitions, helping them to feel secure and confident as they grow and move into new stages of development. These transitions are so important for building independence, emotional resilience, and a sense of belonging.
The children have also shown great interest in the construction happening nearby 🚧 Watching the vehicles and workers has sparked curiosity and conversation. This real-world observation supports language development, encourages questioning, and helps children make sense of the world around them.
We’re so proud of all the learning, growth, and joy happening every day in the Rainbow Room 💛

In the Sunshine Room today ☀️we've been having lots of fun exploring numbers! We've been integrating them into our play in so many exciting ways - using numbers in our mark making, shaping playdough, counting stamps as we paint our pictures, and tracing numbers too.
We've also been busy developing our fine and gross motor skills, while practicing number and colour recognition. The children showed great interest in counting each string on the balloons and focusing on the number they needed to colour each string in
Such a fun and engaging day full of learning through play!🎈

This week the children have been exploring their emotions and using The Colour Monster by Anna Llenas as a reference for their different emotions. The read the story as a group during morning group time- learning about how different emotions can feel within the body. Using their early literacy the children used the photos in the story to explore the story with staff trying to understand what was on each page before it was read. Throughout the days we asked the children how they were feeling and some children collected the colour monster to show the staff using this as their form of communication. Later in the week the children took part in creating a mixed feeling poster using their fine and gross motor skill to mix different colours of paint around a large canvas that will be used in a display to represent exploring our feelings! 🩷
