Maths and Physics Tuition with Mark

Maths and Physics Tuition with Mark I work with pupils at Key Stage 3, GCSE and AS Level. I help them rebuild confidence and skill through regular tailored coaching.

For many, the lockdown and lack of teacher contact, has dented their confidence and understanding of Maths and Physics. The coaching sessions are delivered online through Zoom one to one and in small groups. The result is that my students greatly improve their confidence, motivation and skill in answering exam questions. Parents are delighted to see their son or daughter with renewed confidence and enthusiasm for the subjects, as well as achieving higher grades than expected!

This is what I saw through my 2 inch telescope last night.

Why not encourage your son or daughter to look at the moon and other heavenly bodies. Binoculars will do, steadied against something solid to avoid shake.

As well as being beautiful, it inspires wonder and curiosity. Encourage your child to ask questions. Many answers are found in our knowledge of science.

Does your son or daughter have difficulty with dividing or fractions?

In Tutoring Maths to learners struggling with this, I find that using base ten blocks really helps with helping them relate countable objects with Mathematics symbols and methods . I was surprised that it works well online using my laptop camera.

As a maths tutor I am finding that some first year University students are struggling with the maths element of their courses. An increasing number of fresher students are coming to me for help.

I expect the disruption in education due to the pandemic had a negative impact last year.

It’s good to know that Tutoring has real impact:

Research by the Sutton Trust and the Education Endowment Foundation shows that tuition can improve progress by as much as 5 months and has a significant impact on pupil attainment.

I wouldn’t be surprised if online tutoring is having even greater impact during the pandemic which has made conventional teaching very difficult.

The new year brought my first GCSE student in the West Country. With online tutoring location makes little difference.
