🇺🇸 ‘Tha Lang Road Tae Liberty’ Drama Production 🇺🇸

We are incredibly proud of our P7 pupils who, over the past few months, have been learning about the signing of the Declaration of Independence and working tirelessly to bring this outstanding production to the stage.

The drama, ‘Tha Lang Road Tae Liberty’, told the story of the Ulster-Scots, their journey from Scotland to Ulster and onwards to America, and their contribution to the Declaration of Independence, including connections to the Mourne area during this important period in history.

Our pupils performed four shows to hundreds of people. Their dedication, enthusiasm and talent were evident in every performance, and they did themselves and our school proud.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to:
✨ Jonathan Burgess of Blue Eagle Productions for writing the script.
✨ Rosie McClelland for directing the drama and working closely with the children over the past eight weeks.
✨ Andy and Drew for providing and managing the lighting and sound.
✨ Lisa Guyselman, who travelled all the way from the USA to join us for the performances. Lisa is a direct descendant of one of the key characters featured in the drama, Captain Alexander Chesney, and helped bring history to life for our pupils.
✨ The Department for Communities USA–NI 250 Fund for supporting the project.
✨ The Schomberg Society for making this project possible and for their support throughout.
✨ Everyone who attended the performances, including all the children from KPS, parents, families, friends, visiting schools and special guests.
✨The staff of KPS who always go above and beyond,
✨ And, most importantly, our amazing P7 pupils whose hard work, commitment and talent made the entire production such a tremendous success.
What a fantastic way to mark the 250th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Well done, everyone! 👏🇺🇸

🌳WHAT A WEEK!🌳

The rain didn’t dampen our spirits as we joined Kilkeel Nursery School for our Forest School Week.

Over 500 children passed through the gates of Harbour Wood this week, investigating, creating, messing and chilling. The smiles on the children’s faces said it all.

A huge thank you must go to Lisa, our community values champion from Asda who so generously donated juice, biscuits and marshmallows for s’mores. It was also a special treat this afternoon for the teachers to get their lunch by the campfire - thank you to Eric from Nicholsons Family Butchers for your generous donation of sausages.

Thank you to our canteen staff for daily hot chocolate and to Raymond, David and some of our local retired fishermen (the old sea dogs!) for all of their help with preparation and set up each day.

Finally, thank you parents for your generous donations to keep Harbour Wood well equipped and allowing weeks like this to run. Apologies for the muddy clothes that came home but we know it was all worth it!

This week has been a celebration of all of the learning that has happened beyond the classroom walls this year.

💫Keep Pursuing Success💫
